Franklin White and a resident of Waverly, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 in Waverly. Born in Surry County on October 23, 1925, she was the daughter of the late J. Hayden & Grace Lane James. She as a member of the Waverly Congregational Christian Church and had served as the historian of the church until three years ago. She was a member of the General William Mahone Chapter, United Daughter of the Confederacy, and the Red Hat Social Society. Mrs. White is survived by a sister, Thelma J. Edwards of Hopewell; a brother, Joseph H. James Jr. of Raleigh NC; several nieces and nephews; and her caregivers. She was predeceased by a brother, H. Lane James of Dendron. A funeral service was held March 3 in Purviance Chapel, J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, Wakefield. Burial followed in Waverly Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Waverly Congregational Christian Church, 34299 Walnut Hill Rd., Waverly, Va. 23890 or the Waverly Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583, Waverly, Va. 23890.
