JOHN EDWIN WHITE FUNERAL RITES ON FRIDAY FOR DR. WHITE Dr. John Edwin White, 83, pastor emeritus of Wakefield Baptist Church, died Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. after an illness of one year. A native of Surry County, he was the son of John L. and Mary J. White and husband of Mrs. Elizabeth Jarratt White. He grew up in Wakefield. Dr. White was graduated from Wakefield High School and later the Medical College of Virginia in 1900. He practiced medicine here for seven years before entering Crozer Theological Seminary, where he graduated in 1910. He served pastorates in Charlotte County, Burkeville and in Lynchburg. He later served as a state missionary to Madison West, Virginia. In 1933, he was named business manager of the Virginia Baptist Hospital at Lynchburg. Later he served as pastor of Inglewood Baptist Church in Lynchburg for twelve years. He completed his ministry at the Wakefield Baptist Church and after his retirement in 1949 was made pastor emeritus of the Wakefield Church. Surviving are four nephews, Dr. Lawrence White, of Huntington, W.Va.; Clarence B. White, of Fredericksburg, Emett S. White and Massie B. White, both of Suffolk, and one niece, Miss Edith White, of Suffolk. Funeral services will be held Friday at 4 p.m. at the Purviance Chapel at Wakefield with Rev. D.M. Cotter, pastor of Wakefield Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. N.C. Clifton, of Inglewood Baptist Church, Lynchburg. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. Rev.
