WHITE WAVERLY - Mrs. Judith Black White, 66, died Tuesday morning in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk. A native of Suffolk, she was the widow of George Chapman White and a daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Mrs. Belle Thompson Black. She was a member of Spring Hill Congregational Christian Church. She retired last June as a housemother at North Carolina Wesleyan College at Rocky Mount. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John William Guy of Laurel, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. T.J. Christian of Hampton and Mrs. W.C. Jones of Cocoa, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Judith E. Guy of Laurel. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Waverly Congregational Christian Church by the Rev. Merle F. Sollinger and the Rev. Richard Jackson. Burial will be in Waverly Cemetery. Her maternal grandfather John McKay THOMSON (1842 - 1922) was a Scottish immigrant. He is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Saginaw, Saginaw Co., MI. Her paternal grandfather Joseph Moses BLACK was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. G, 10th VA Infantry & Co. D, 5th VA Infantry. He was wounded at Chancellorsville and captured at Mine Run. He was murdered 12 Nov 1870 in Staunton. His widow "Joanna" applied for a pension 31 May 1900, stating Joseph died "in 1877 ... in Staunton, Va., Killed in a personal difficulty after the war," & 2 Aug 1902, stating he was "Killed in a personal encounter after the war in 1877 ... in Staunton." Joseph & Johanna Juliene (BERRY) BLACK are buried in Keezletown Cemetery, Keezletown, Rockingham Co. Articles on the murder & the acquittal of murderer George W.
