All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WATSON BRIGGS WHITE 04-25-1874 - 02-03-1936 Watson Briggs White, born April 25, 1874, was the son of John Lawson White and his wife Mary Jane Briggs White of Wakefield. He moved to Wakefield in 1877 to the family home on the corner of Main Street and the Ivor Road (later U.S. 460). He was the Surry, Sussex and Southampton Railway Station Agent at Wakefield until 1912 when he resigned to enter the transfer business. He married Herma Hart, born June 9, 1882, daughter of James D. Hart and Ada Bishop Hart. Mrs. Watson White, "Miss Herma" was a faithful leader of the many phases of Wakefield Baptist Church’s work and the church's growth. She served as Church Treasurer from 1907 to 1936. Following the death of her husband on February 3, 1936, she actively continued to support the Sunday school grogram, the W.M.U., Mission activities, and the Petersburg Baptist Association until age forced the curtailment of her commitments. She died at the age of ninety on June 20, 1972. Mr. and Mrs. White and their youngest son, Watson Hart White (b. November 6, 1912, d. May 21, 1913) are buried in Section B of Wakefield Cemetery. Their older son, Clarence Donavan White was born August 12, 1904. He married Agnes Mann of November 4, 1930 and he died December 15, 1969 in Fredericksburg. (Mr. White’s window is located in the choir loft of the church sanctuary.) Watson Briggs WHITE, former SSS R.R.
