FAYE ELLIS WHITMORE

  Mrs. Faye Ellis Whitmore, 55, a resident of Wakefield, Va., died Thursday, 
June 18, 1998, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital in Suffolk, Va., after a 
short illness.

  A native of Newsoms, Va., she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.F. 
Ellis of Wakefield.  She was the daughter of Mabel Cogsdale Ellis.  She was a 
member of Wakefield Baptist Church and had served as organist of the church 
and for Purviance Funeral Home in Wakefield for many years.  She had been 
employed as a secretary for Wakefield High School and Tidewater Academy.  At 
the time of her death, she was assistant vice president of the Bank of Sussex 
and Surry in Wakefield.

  Besides her parents, she is survived by her husband, Samuel Aubrey Whitmore, 
Jr.; two sons, Jerry Ellis Whitmore of Mechanicsville and Gregory Joel 
Whitmore of Claremont; and a sister, Pamela Ethel Roper of Petersburg.

  Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 1998, in Purviance 
Funeral Home, Wakefield, by the Rev. Ron Carlberg and the Rev. Douglas M. 
Cotter.  Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery.  The family will receive 
friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and at other times at the 
family residence, 540 W. Main St., Wakefield.  Memorial donations may be made 
to the American Cancer Society, Attention: Jessie Helyer, president of the 
Sussex-Surry Chapter, P.O. Box 836, Wakefield, VA 23888.
