The native of Surry County was the daughter of the late George Sam and Emma Scarborough Clarke. She was a member and organist of the Dendron Methodist Church. The widow of Thomas B. Whitmore Sr. is survived by a son, Thomas B. Whitmore Jr. of West Point; five brothers; Bernice A., J. Russell, Lawrence C., and Herman H. Clarke, all of Richmond, and Robert H. Clarke of Waverly; and one sister, Mrs. William Jones of Richmond. Funeral services were at Dendron Methodist Church Friday, Feb. 14, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. R.B. Moore and Dr. R.E. Brittle officiating. Burial was in Wakefield Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Garland Spratley, Oven Gwaltney, Nick Jordan, Jack Pittman, Elmo Bloxom, Ray Holland, M.B. Joyner, Wilson Cofer, O.C. Bell, Clyde Cofer, and Wallace Faison. [*CLARK corrected to CLARKE throughout.
