Wellons, 88, retired farmer, died at his home near Wakefield on Wednesday, January 30. A native of Southampton County, the deceased was the husband of the late Anna Barrett Wellons. He was a member of Barrett's Christian Church. He is survived by two sons, Ernest L. Wellons of Zuni and Arthur M. Wellons of Spring Grove, Surry County; and one grandson. Services were conducted at the Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, on Friday afternoon, February 1, at 2:30 o’clock, followed by burial in Wakefield Cemetery. Revs. H.E. Crutchfield and J.E. McCauley officiated; and Nan Seeley, soloist, sang "Sunrise." Active pallbearers were Spratley Barrett, Cephus Brittle, David Gay, J.R. Simms, Jr., Raby Turner and Louis Umphlett. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family.
