IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I Thomas Atkinson of the Parish of Albemarle of County of Sussex being sick & weak in body but of perfect mind & disposing memory thanks be to the Almighty God for the same do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner & form following, that is to say, first & principally I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me and my body I commit to the earth to be buried in a Christian like manner and for my worldly Estate I give & dispose of the same in manner & form following vizt. ITEM. I give & bequeath to my Son Joel Atkinson the land & plantation whereon I now live containing three hundred & ninety five acres. I say I give it to him & his heirs & assigns forever. I also give & devise to my said Son Joell Atkinson & to his heirs & assigns forever my Negro man Bob. ITEM. I give & devise to my Son Absalom Atkinson my Negro man Ned to him & his heirs & assigns forever. ITEM. I give & devise to my Daughter Elizabeth Prince wife of William Prince and her heirs & assigns forever my Negro boy Davie. ITEM. I give & devise to my Daughter Mary Atkinson my Negro girl Syntha to her & her heirs assigns forever. I also give my said Daughter Mary Atkinson one chest. ITEM. I give & devise to my Daughter Lydda Atkinson & to her heirs & assigns forever one feather bed & furniture also one chest known by the name of her Mothers'. ITEM. I give to my Daughter Frances Adams six shillings curr. money of Virginia. ITEM. My Will & desire is that all the residue of my Estate not heretofore devised be sold by my Executors hereafter named let it be of what kind or quatity soever and the money arising from such sale to be divided between my children hereafter named William Atkinson, Absalom Atkinson & my Daughters Elizabeth Prince, Mary Atkinson and Lydda Atkinson. LASTLY I do nominate & appoint my two sons William Atkinson & Joell Atkinson Executors of this my last Will & Testament, disannulling & making void all former Wills by me heretofore made; In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 7th day of March in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & seventy four. The last Will & Testament of Thomas Atkinson deceased was presented into Court by William & Joell Atkinson the Executors therein named who made oath thereto as the law directs and the same was proved by the oath of Samuel Northington & Jno. Davis two of the Witnesses thereto and by the Court ordered to be recorded, and on the motion of the said Executors Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form. Teste A.
