SUSSEX COUNTY, VA - WILLS - William Cook, 8 Nov 1764 ----¤¤¤---- Sussex County, Va. Will of William Cook - 1764 In the name of God Amen. I William Cook of Sussex County being sick and weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given to almighty God, do make and ordain this my last will and Testament, in manner and form following, first I commend my Soul to almighty God stedfastly trusting to his gracious acceptation thereof through the merits and mediation of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and as for what temporal estate it hath pleased God of his goodness to bestow upon me I give and dispose thereof as followeth. Item. I give to my loving wife the labour of three negros, Vist. Bosser, Robin and Amy during her natural life and also the use of the plantation I now live on during her natural life---- Item. I give to my Daughter Hannah Goodwyn four negros Joan, Amy Tab, and Jemmy to her & her hairs forever.----- Item. I give to my Daughter Elizabeth Irby three negros, Dick Amy and Humphrey to her and her heirs forever.----- Item. I give to my son William Cook Twenty Shillings.----- Item. I give to my son James Cook all the land that I bought of John Bonner lying between Capt. Thompson's and David Jones's lines in Sussex County also one hundred acres of land joining David Jones's Land, be the same more or less. Beginning at a small red Oak near Jones's Path, thence along a new line to a corner tree of mine, a red Oak, thence along a new line to Jones's line, to him and his Heirs forever also three negroes Tom, Tab and Milly to him and his heirs forever.----- Item. I give to my son Thomas Cook all my land in Prince George County joining Michael Rosser and Peter Rosser being two hundred and fifty acres to him and his Heirs forever.------- Item. I give to my Daughter Sarah Cook two negros, Mingo and Aggy to her and her heirs forever, a feather bed Rugg, blanket and a pair of Sheets and six pounds for a saddle, six plates and three dishes and two Cow and Calves.----- Item. I give to my son Foster Cook the land I now live on with the plantation and three hundred and twenty five acres of land after his mother's decease to him and his heirs forever also tow negros Tony and Anaka to him and his heirs forever. ------ Item. I give to my son Henry Cook all my land in Brunswick County being three hundred & ten acres joining to Vinson to him and his Heirs forever also three negros Joe, Cate and Moll to him and his heirs forever a feather bed Rugg blanket and a pair of sheets.------ My will and desire is that if either of my children should die before they come to the age of twenty one Years, that then their land and the rest of their estate be sold and equally divided among my children that are then alive and the three negros that I left the labour of to my wife I desire at her death may be equally divided among my five children James, Thomas, Sarah, Foster and Henry. After my just debts and Funeral expenses are paid and discharged all the rest and reside of my estate I give to my loving wife Elizabeth Cook. Lastly I nominate and appoint my loving wife and my Son James Cook Executor and Executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all other wills and Testaments by me at any time heretofore made. At a court held for Sussex County the 20th day of December 1764 The afore written last will and Testament of William Cook deceas'd was presented into Court by the Executors therein named who made Oath thereto according to Law and the same was proved by the Oaths of William Bonner, Richard Carter and John Clark the witnesses thereto and by the court ordered to be Recorded and on the motion of the said Executors Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.----- Teste A.
