SUSSEX COUNTY, VA - WILLS - Anselm Gilliam, 18 Oct 1811 ----¤¤¤---- [Please excuse any errors, the original (transcribed from microfilm at the Library of Va) is very faded and hard to read] Sussex Co Will Bk G p 371 In the name of God Amen I Anselm Gilliam of Sussex Co being of a sound and disposing mind and memory to make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following: to wit Imprimeso: Item unto my beloved wife Sarah Gilliam during her life or widowhood a certain parsel of land to wit beginning at a pine tree on the road leading to Peters bridge from said pine tree south to a small branch from there to the spring band from there to the Little Swamp then up the said swamp to the road then down said road to the pine the beginning. Further leave my wife all of my personal estate of what kind or sort ever it may be found during her life or widowhood for the support and education of my son Matthew Gilliam. Lastly I nominate and appoint my wife Sarah Gilliam and William Peters Executors of this my last will and testament. October 18 eighteen hundred eleven Signed, sealed, and witnessed in present of: Drewry Gilliam Anselm (X) Gilliam Willie Magee Item I give my son Carter Gilliam the said tract of land at the death of my wife Sarah Gilliam to him and his heirs forever with all my other land. At a Court held for Sussex County the 7th day of November 1811. The last will and testament of Anselm Gilliam was presented by the oaths of the two subscribing witnesses and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said Exec who ordered such and gave bond and security agreeably to law, certificate is granted him for obtaining probate in due from.
