Lawrence ************************************************************* Will of John King - 1766 (Will Book B, page 73, Sussex Co.VA,) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I John King of Sussex County being in perfect mind & memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same, but calling to mind that it is appointed for all men once to die and not knowing how soon my change may come do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament In manner & form following, IMPRIMIS I give & bequeath my Soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me & for my worldly Estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with I give & dispose of the same as followeth (to wit) ITEM. I give & bequeath unto Elizabeth King the widow of William King deceased all my land on the south side of Lees branch containing Eighty Acres, be the same more or less During her natural life or widowhood and after her decease to her son Charles & his heirs forever. ITEM. I give & bequeath unto my Daughter Ann King all my land of the above mentioned tract on the North side of Lees Branch containing seventy acres be the same more or less during her natural life and after her decease to my Grand son William King & his heirs forever. ITEM. I give & bequeath to my son Joshua King my bed & furniture thereunto belonging. ITEM. I give & bequeath to my Daughter Ann King all my goods & chattles that is in her possession, to wit, also a cow & calf. ITEM. I leave all the residue of my Estate to be sold & after my just debts paid the residue to be divided between my son Joshua & John Hood. Lastly my will & desire is that my estate be not appraised. ITEM. I do appoint my son Joshua & John Hood to be my Executors of this my last Will & Testament disannulling all former Wills by me made IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 17th day of January 1766. The last Will & Testament of John King deceased was presented into Court by John Hood & Joshua King the Executors therein named who made oath thereto as the law directs & being proved by the oaths of Solomon Graves & Sarah Graves two of the witnesses thereto was by the Court ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said Executors Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
