Will of Berry Joseph Ridout(Rideout)Sr. (Will Book 4, page 295, Sussex Co. VA.) I, B.J. Ridout Sr., of the County of Sussex, State of Virginia, being of sound and disposing mind, do hereby make, publish, and declare this to be paid, if I shall owe any at my death. First: I desire all my just debts to be paid, if I shall owe any at my death. Second: I desire that my wife, Vinitia Didout (sic), while she remains my widow, to have the use of and occupation of all my real estate in Sussex County, and also all my personal estate, if she does not marry to hold the same during her life. Third: I give, devise and bequeath to my son B.J. Ridout, Jr., in fee simple, seventy five acres or one half of my tract of land on which I now reside, the line to run from East to West, the line to cross half way between Engine shed and Persimmon tree. Fourth: It is my will and desire at the death of my said wife,or should she marry, that the rest of my real estate and personal estate, to be sold by my executor, and the proceeds arising therefrom to equally divide between my children as follows; Florence Parsons, one share, Blanche Harrison, one share, Susie Abernathy, one share and Lottie Ridout, Alice Barnes having already been provided for. Fifth: I give my executor herinafter mentioned full power to sell any of my real estate that may be required for the payments of debts, or for purposes of partition among my devisees. Sixth: I do hereby nominate and appoint my son-in-law E.B. Parsons, of Sussex County, Virginia, executor of this my last will and testament, with full power and authority to execute the same according to its true and intent meaning, and, having perfect confidence in his judgement and integrity, I direct that the said executor shall not give security. In witness whereof I hereunto subscribed my name and affix my seal to this my last will and testament, which is written without any interlineation or erasure on one sheet of paper, with my name written on same at Jarratt, VA., this 1st day of May 1916.
