IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I Holam Sturdivant of Sussex County being sick and weak of body but of sound memory and understanding (thanks be to Almighty God) do constitute ordain and appoint this to be my last will and testament hereby revoking and disanuling all former wills or testaments by me hereto made in manner and form following that is to say I give and bequeath unto my Son Holam Sturdivant one negro man named Jamey and one negro girl named Annaca with all my guns and tools of all sorts also one bed three pewter dishes six plates and two basons two silver spoons one porringer and one salt sellar to him and his heirs. I give and bequeath to my Son Matthew Sturdivant one negro boy named Simon also one negro boy named Fountain and one heifer to him and his heirs. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Bates one negro girl named Sarah which she has now in her possession and one negro boy named Sam to her and heirs. Item. I lend the use of all the remainder and residue of my estate of what sort or kind soever to my loving wife Elizabeth dureing her natural life and after her death I give and bequeath to my son Holam Sturdivant all my Lands and Mill to him and his heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Bates (after the decease of my loving wife) one negro man named Wakefield to her and her heirs. Item. I give and bequeath to my Sons Holam and Matthew the following Slaves after the decease of my loving wife to be equally divided between them viz't. Anaca Judy Esther and Ceaser to them and their heirs forever. Item My will and desire is that my estate shall not be appraised after my decease. LASTLY I hereby constitute and appoint my Loving wife Elizabeth and my two Sons Holam and Matthew to be my true and lawful executors of all and every part of this my Last Will and Testament IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and affixed my Seal this 25 day of September 1757. Massenburg Haman Wynne William Sturdivant At a Court held for Sussex County the 18 day of November 1757. The afore written last will and testament of Holam Sturdivant deced. was presented in Court by Holam and Matthew Sturdivant two of the executors therein named who made oath thereto according to Law and the same was proved by the Oaths of Nicholas Massenburg Haman Wynne and William Sturdivant the witnesses thereto and by the Court ordered to be recorded; and on the motion of the said executors Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
