IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I John Anderson Sturdivant of Sussex County being very sick and weak tho' of perfect memory thanks be to God for it, But not knowing how soon my change may come, do therefore ordain this to be my last Will & Testament in manner following. I give my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be buried in a christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned, and my soul to God who gave it me humbly imploreing his divine Majesty through the merits and intersession of my blessed redeemer to receive it into the number of the blessed, and as for my temporal estate which it hath been pleased God to bless me with I give and dispose of in form and manner following viz't. Imprimis. Item. I give and bequeath to my son Abners sons all that tract or parcel of land which I had promised to my said son Abner containing one hundred and twenty five acres to them and their heirs forever; But if they both die before they come of age, my desire is it shall be equally divided between my two sons John & Jesse Sturdivant to them their heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath to my son John Sturdivant one hundred and twenty five acres of land lying on the south side of the hunting quarter swamp, laid off by a line of marked trees to him and his heirs forever, also one bed and furniture to him his heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath to my son Jesse Sturdivant one hundred and twenty acres of land lying between the plantation whereon I now live and my son Abners line, also one bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath to my son Anderson Sturdivant all the residue of my land and plantation whereon I now live, also one bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever, also my saddle and bridle, also all my wearing apparel. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Sturdivant my negro called Bet to her and her heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath to my three sons namely John, Jesse and Anderson, and Sarah, my children, all and every of my estate of whatsoever kind it be, not heretofore divised to be equally divided amongst them, to them and their heirs forever. I constutute and appoint my son John Sturdivant and my son Anderson Sturdivant Executors of this my last will and testament, utterly revoking and disannulling all Wills heretofore made. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed me seal this ninteenth day of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy three. The aforementioned last Will & Testament of John Anderson Sturdivant deceed. was presented into Court by Anderson Sturdivant one of the Executors therein named who made oath thereto as the law directs and the same was proved by the oaths of Joseph Dennis & William Oliver witnesses thereto and by the Court ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said Exec'or. Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form reserving liberty to the other Ex'or. to join him therein when he shall see fit. Teste Will. Claiborne Jun'r.
