IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I Matthew Sturdivant of the Parish of Albemarle in the County of Sussex being sick and weak of Body but of sound mind and disposing memory thanks be to God for the same; do make & ordain this to be my last Will and Testament first and principally I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my Body to the Earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter nam'd. Item. I give unto my son in law John Fennell Two Negro Slaves to wit Jenny and Boson two Cattle to him and his heirs forever. Item. I give unto my son in law Briant Fennell Two Negro Slaves to wit Will and Joe one Gray Colt Two Cattle to him and his heirs forever. Item. I give unto my son Matthew Sturdivant Three Negro Slaves to wit Tom Bob and Bet two Cattle to him and his heirs forever. Item. I give unto my daughter Edith Sturdivant Three Negroes Slaves to wit Tab and Child Sarah and Edmund two Cattle to her and her heirs forever. Item. I give unto my loving wife Rachel Sturdivant the use of three Negroe Slaves to wit Simon Anica Phebe and all the residue of my Estate of what kind soever during her lifetime and after her Death to be divided between my son Matthew and Daughter Edith. Lastly I do nominate constitute and appoint my Loving Wife and John Sturdivant son of Hollom my whole and soul Executors of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto affixed my hand and seal this thirtieth Day of December one thousand seven hundred and Eighty one. The last Will and Testament of Matthew Sturdivant dec'ed. was exhibited in Court by Rachel and John Sturdivant Jr. the Executors therein named proved by the oath of Stephen Hobbs a witness thereto & ordered to be recorded on the motion of the said Executors who made oath according to Law & with Drury Partin & John Sturdivant their Securities entered into and acknowledged their Bond in the penalty of Three thousand pounds conditioned as the law directs Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
