I have not attempted to follow the chain transfer of the slaves. They are frequently lent to the wife with the stipulation that if she marries, they are to be divided differently, usually between their children, but not always. Slaveholder: Prince, William Document type: Will Document date: 19 Oct 1801 Slave loaned to: Patsey Prince, his wife :Patt, negro woman Comments: This Will was recorded in Southampton County, however, he states that he lives in the county of Sussex. Patt is to go to her sons John and William if Patsey remarries or dies.
