IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I Matthew Whitefield of the Parish of Albemarle and County of Sussex being very weak of body but of a sound and disposing mind & memory praised be God do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in mannor and form following Viz. FIRST and principally I bequeath my soul to Almighty God that gave it, and as for what Estate it hath pleased the Lord of his great mercey to bestoy upon me I give & dispose of as followeth. ITEM. I give and devise to my Son Thomas and his heirs forever my lands and plantation I perchased of John Edwards containing one hundred, seventy acres more or less one feather bed & furniture one Negro boy named James two cows & calves two ewes & lambs. ITEM. I give and devise to my Daughter ANN and and her heirs or assigns one Negro girl named Fillis one feather bed and furniture two cows & calves two ewes & lambs. ITEM. I give & devise to my Daughter Jane & her heirs or assigns one Negro girle named Alee one feather bed & furniture two cows & calves two ewes & lambs. ITEM. I give and devise to my Son William & his heirs or assigns forever my College Plantation whereon I now live one Negro boy named Robbin one feather bed & furniture two cows and calves two ewes & lambs. ITEM. I give and devise to my Daughter Mary and her heirs or assigns one Negro girle named Fortune one feather bed and furniture two cows and calves two ewes & lambs. ITEM. I lend the use labour and profits of my four Negros James Jack Frank & Cate woman with all the remaining part of my Estate not before dispos'd of to my dear and loving wife Ann during her natural life and at the decease of my loving wife I give and devise the said four Negros James Jack Frank & Cate with all the remainder of my Estate to be equally divided between my five Thomas Ann Jane William and Mary and desire this my Estate may not be appraised I constitute and appoint my loving wife Ann and my Son Thomas to be my hole and sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affix'd my seal this 22d day of September 1764. Bellway John Pettway Edward Pettway At a Court held for Sussex County the 21 day of May 1767. The last Will and Testament of Mathew Whitfield deced. was pesented into Court by Ann Whitfield one of the Executors therein named who made oath thereto as the law directs & the same was proved by the oaths of John Pettway & Edward Pettway two of the witnesses thereto & by the Court ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said Ann Certificate is granted her for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
