ON A SLIP OF SCHOOL TABLET PAPER FOUND LOOSE INSIDE THE BIBLE:

Otis Caldwell and Mary Turley were married Sept. 27th 1866.
William Floyd Mcguire and Angeline Phillips were married Feb. 14, 1865.

[Transcriber’s Note: This marriage date for William Floyd McGuire and Angeline 
Phillips does not correspond to their officially recorded marriage date of 14 
Feb. 1867, Tazewell Co., VA, Marriage Register, Book 3, Page 24. Note also that 
Otis Caldwell and Mary Turley were parents of James Solomon Caldwell, the first 
husband of Tracy Belle McGuire and father of Emily Edna and William Otis 
Caldwell.]


Additional Comments:
The late Emily Edna Caldwell Phillips, daughter of Tracy Belle McGuire and James 
Solomon Caldwell, inherited this Bible from her grandparents, William Floyd 
McGuire and Angeline Phillips of Pounding Mill Branch, Tazewell County, 
Virginia. Emily and her brother, William Otis Caldwell, were orphaned by the 
death of their father in 1890 and their mother in 1901, after which they were 
raised by William Floyd McGuire and Angeline Phillips. Several of the written 
notes and scribbles in the Bible and the loose note inside the pages were 
probably added by little Emily as a child. She gave the Bible to David McGuire 
Trayer in 1965.
