(188) Charles was married to Virginia Celie Dudley. Virginia was born in December 1847, daughter of William Parhan Dudley (ca. 1798-????) and Mary Stevens 'Polly' Deatherage (ca. 1804-1878). (189) In 1880, Charles and Celie lived in Tazewell County, with Charles working as a farmer. Celie was caring for their five children: William, Bentley, Cliff, Ora, and an unnamed son. (190) In 1899, Charles and Celie conveyed a lot in Mud Fork to the Carner's Chapel M. E. Church. (191) In 1900, Charles and Virginia lived in Clearfork District, with Charles still farming. Their household included four children: Grover, Michael, Lou, and Susan, as well as Charles father, William H. Butt, and his sister, Agnes A. Butt. (192) In January 1902, Charles was at Big Branch, hunting on the rabbit farm. (193) In April of that year he visited Taborville. (194) In 1910, Charles and his wife lived in Clearfork District with three of their children: Mike, Louise, and Mable. (195) Charles died on 18 February 1917 at Flat Top Yards, Tazewell County, Virginia. His obituary stated: "DIED AT FLAT TOP Mr. C. W. Butt, about 70 years of age, died at Flat Top Yards last Sunday night, after an illness of only a few days. He was a well known merchant, and a good citizen. He leaves a widow and a large family of children. He was take(n) sick on Thursday with a chill and it is thought pneumonia developed." (196) Celia lived with her son Mike after Charles' death. (197) She died on 8 February 1936. Her obituary reported: Mrs. Butt Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Yards for Mrs. Virginia Dudley, aged 88, who died at the home of her son, M. M. Butt, Saturday afternoon. Rev. E. W. Dean, pastor of the funeral and burial services. She is survived by a number of children. Mrs. Butt, was an aunt of the late J. F. Dudley, of Bluefield, Va. (198) William and Virginia (Dudley) Butt were the parents of eight children: i. William Butt was born circa 1872. ii. Bentley Ransom Butt was born in 1873. Bentley was married on 25 December 1895 in Mercer County, West Virginia to Margaret Alice Bostwick. Margaret was born in 1873 in Montgomery County, Virginia, daughter of Ira H. Bostwick and Pelarium (-?-). (199) iii. Clifton Dale "Cleff" Butt was born on 5 November 1875 at Falls Mills, Tazewell County, Virginia (see family sketch). iv. Ora Alice Butt was born circa 1878. Ora was married on 25 August 1897 in Tazewell County to George Monroe Boswell. George was born in 1874 in Franklin County, Virginia, son of William Boswell and Mary (-?-). (200) v. Grover C. Butt was born in September 1882. Grover was married to Nannie Mullins. Nannie was born in October 1886 in Virginia, the daughter of Jefferson Mullins and Emma J. Doyle. (201) Nannie died in March 1918: Mrs. Grover Butt dropped dead at her home in Flat Top this week. She is survived by her husband and six children." (202) vi. Michael M. Butt was born in 1884. vii. Louise M. Butt was born in 1888. viii. Mable Susan Butt was born in January 1891 in Tazewell County, Virginia. She was married on 4 January 1911 in Tazewell County to James N. Morris. James was born about 1885 in Montgomery County, Virginia, son of Henry J. Morris and A. E. (-?-). (203) Clifton Dale "Cleff" Butt was born on 5 November 1875 at Falls Mills, Tazewell County, Virginia. (204) Cleff was married on 24 November 1895 in Graham, Tazewell County, Virginia to Emma Dee Sewell. Emma was born on 26 January 1874 in Clark County, Kentucky. (205) In 1900, Cleff and his wife Emma lived in Clear Fork with their two children, Robert and Nannie. Cleff was working as a farmer. (206) Emma died on 23 February 1905 at Mudfork, Tazewell County, Virginia: Mrs. Clifton Butt, of Mud Fork, died Thursday night of pneumonia. She is survived by her husband and five children. (207) Cleff was married secondly on 22 December 1908 in Graham, Tazewell County to Eliza J. Brewster. Eliza may be the daughter of James Morgan Bruster and Mary Tracy Hankins. A two-year-old daughter named Eliza is listed with this couple in the 1880 census in the Maiden Springs District, Tazewell County. (208) In 1910, the couple, Cleffs children: Robert, Mamie, Clyde, Nellie, and Edwin; and a seven-year-old boy named Robert Crockett, lived in Tazewell County. (209) By July 1917 Cliff and family visited in Tazewell County, the family having moved to Florida. (210) During his lifetime, Cleff Dale Butt was a charter member of the local Masonic Lodge. His occupations included his working as a carpenter and building contractor. He built the John D. Jones block on 8th Street, the Clermont Pharmacy black, the First National Bank Building, and the American Legion Pavilion at the foot of 8th Street on Lake Minneola. (211) Cleff died on 1 February 1923 in Clermont, Florida. He is buried there in the Oak Hill. Clifton and Emma (Sewell) Butt were the parents of five children: (212) i. Robert Westley Butt was born on 24 November 1896 in Virginia. ii. Nannie Lee Butt was born on 7 February 1899 in Virginia. iii. Clyde Pell Butt was born on 5 January 1901 in Virginia. iv. Nellie Beatrice Butt was born on 18 November 1902 in Virginia. v. Stanley Ray Butt was born on 5 December 1903. He died on 4 July 1906. Clifton and Eliza (Brewster) Butt were the parents of five children: (213) i. Edwin Clifforn Butt was born on 10 November 1909. Edwin died on 19 December 1983. ii. Mary Etta Butt was born on 3 April 1911. She died on 1 September 1912. iii. Henry Harrison Butt was born on 3 September 1912. Henry died on 26 June 1954. iv. Evelyn Elizabeth Butt was born on 30 June 1914. She died on 29 January 1918 at Norfolk, Virginia. v. Juanita Butt was born on 30 January 1918. Juanita was married on 24 September 1914 to James Hoke Sweet. Juanita died on 10 July 1988 at Clermont, Florida. COMPTON Samuel Watson 'Wat/Wott' Compton was born in 1875 in Falls Mills, Tazewell County, Virginia, son of Hiram Alonzo Compton and Nancy Jane Belcher. (214) He was married on 3 September 1902 at Clover Bottom, West Virginia, to Mariah Laura 'Marie' Belcher. Marie was born on 30 October 1877 in Virginia, daughter of Robert H. Belcher and Aurelia E. Compton. Marie died on 18 March 1919. Wat died on 6 May 1946 in Kegley, West Virginia. (215) Samuel and Mariah (Belcher) Compton were the parents of six children: (216) i. Ecie Laura Compton was born circa 1904. ii. Eula Aurelia Compton was born on 7 July 1905. She was married to Wyatt Esaw Reed. iii. Hallie V. Compton was born circa 1908. She was married to Robert Hubert Robinette. iv. Clifton R. 'Lonzo" Compton was born circa 1910. He was married to Flora B. Thompson. v. Lacy Earl Compton was born circa 1912. He was married to Avie Robinette. vi. Edith Compton was born circa 1914. She was married to Thomas Cook. FINK James C. Fink was born circa March 1849 in Virginia. (217) James was married on XXX to Cynthia M. Dudley. Cynthia was born in December 1850 in Virginia, daughter of Hugh D. Dudley (1822-1911) and Mary Jane Shuffleberger (circa 1827-1864). In 1870, James and 'Cintha' lived in Beaver, Mercer County, West Virginia. (218) In 1880, James and Cynthia lived in Clear Fork township, Tazewell County. James worked as a farmer while Cynthia kept house and cared for their four sons" Hugh, Walter, Charles, and Rueben. (219) In 1900, James and Cynthia were still farming and living in Clear Forks. Four sons lived with them. John, James, and Rolley were working as farm laborers. Walter was a bookkeeper. (220) In July 1902, the couple was visited by Carrie Hicks of Bluefield. (221) In August 1902, John and Walter Fink attended the Masonic sermon in Graham. (222) In May 1905 it was reported that "We have been informed by H. J. Tabor, who has been running the Falls mill for nearly two years, that it will change hands soon, as his time expires, which is the first day of next August. We understand that Mr. Jas. Fink, of Falls Mills, will take charge of the mill at that time." (223) The following week Mrs. Charles Greever and her daughter, who had married Walter Fink, spent several days at the Fink's home. (224) In June 1905, Cynthia Fink spent several days visiting one of her sons who was living in Welch. She also visited friends in Eckman. (225) That same month James was "improving his property in the village by tearing down the old out-buildings, and putting up new ones instead." (226) In August 1910, James built an addition to his home in Falls Mills. (227) On 11 April 1919, Mrs. Giles Tabor visited the Finks. (228) James apparently died in January 1940. (229) James and Cynthia (Dudley) Fink were the parents of seven children: (230) i. Hugh C. Fink was born about 1872 in Virginia. ii. Walter J. Fink was born in June 1874 in Virginia. Walter was married to Elma Greever. Elma was born circa August 1880, daughter of Charles P. Greever and Amanda R. Graham. iii. Reuben Fink was born about 1876 in Virginia. iv. Charles Luther Fink was born circa 1877 in Virginia. v. John W. Fink was born in December 1881 in Virginia. vi. James Gratton Fink was born in March 1884 in Virginia. He was married to Roxie Moses shortly before 13 October 1910: A pretty fall wedding was solemnized at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. Moses at Bramwell, when their daughter, Miss Roxie, became the bride of J. G. Fink, of this place, the Rev. R. W. Hickman, of Pocahontas, officiating. The bride wore a gown of silk. The bride and groom left on No 16 for Roanoke and other points. The attendants from the Falls were Misses Gladys Ransom, Nannie Perdue, Bertha Harry, Messers Raleigh Fink, brother of the groom and Roby Harry. (231) vii. Raleigh E. Fink was born in September 1889 in Virginia. HARRY Isaiah Henderson HARRY was born in June 1865 in Virginia, son of John B. Harry, Jr. and Margaret Dedmons. (232) In 1880, Isaiah may have been living in Clear Fork Township with Thomas and Cynthia (-?-) Puckett. A 15-year-old named Isaiah Harry is present in their household, listed as a cousin. (233) Isaiah was married on 10 or 11 September 1885 in Tazewell County to Meldora Moore TABOR. A. E. Waggoner performed the ceremony. (234) Meldora was born on 10 January 1866 in Tazewell County, Virginia, daughter of John Andrew Tabor (1841-1915) and his first wife Martha A. Compton (1843-1867). In 1900, Isaiah and his family lived in Clearfork District, Meldora had had six children by that time: Arthur, John, Bertha, Roba, Walter, and Clarence. (235) On 8 March 1901, Isaiah attended the Masonic Lodge meeting at Graham. The following week he and W. E. Dudley "have gone to Crane Creek to build rail road shanties for Walton, Witten & Company." (236) In early April 1901, Isaiah and W. J. Fink again attended the Masonic meeting at Graham. (237) They returned in May and reported having "a nice time." (238) In January 1902, Isaiah was visited by his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Isaiah went to the Masonic meeting in Graham in early May 1902. (239) Isaiah visited Taborville with his siblings in September 1902. He also visited in March 1905. (240) Isaiah and Meldora attended the quarterly meeting at Moore's Memorial Centenary Church in June 1905. (241) In May 1908, Isaiah and James Hale leased the old N. & W. Mill in Falls Mill. (242) In 1910, Isaiah and Meldora lived with their nine children: Arthur, John, Bertha, Roby, Walter, Clarence, Marion, Mary, Eula in Tazewell, Tazewell County. (243) Meldora Moore (Tabor) Harry died on 16 October, 1918. (244) In 1920, Isaiah lived in the Falls Mills area of the Clearfork District with his daughters Mary and Eula. Isaiah was listed as a retail merchant. (245) On 4 November 1920 Isaiah was married second to Minnie (-?-) Burton. (246) Sarah Maxine (McKenzie) Scott remembered Isaiah: I knew Isaiah Harry. I may have known his second wife, just don't remember her. Mr. Harry on his way to the store after going home for lunch would stomp our toes if he could beat me and my sisters to certain rocks, there at our store. We always heard as children that he kept his casket up stairs over his store. Of course, the was funny and weird for children during that time. Since he died in '36 I would have been 5 1/2 yrs old. I knew two of his children Roby who with his wife Mammie later moved into the house coming from Salem, Va. I knew Marion who married Irene and was kin to the Sturges. (247) Isaiah died on 20 July 1936 and is buried in the Harry/Tabor Cemetery at Falls Mills, Tazewell County, Virginia. (248) His obituary was printed in the Clinch Valley News: "I. H. HARRY Isaiah H. Harry, well known and prominent merchant of Falls Mills, died Monday in a Bluefield hospital of pneumonia following an illness of ten days. He was 71 years of age. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Falls Mills Methodist church, conducted by the assisted by Rev. C. W. Collins, Rev. F. B. Jackson, and Rev. E. T. Gilmer. Before entering business for himself Mr. Harry worked for the Walton Construction company for a number of years. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Meldora Tabor, of Tazewell county, whom he married September 10, 1885. His second wife who survives was Mrs. Minnie Burton. They were married November 4, 1920. Mr. Harry, was a Mason and a Shriner and a member of the Board of Stewards of the Falls Mills M. E. Church. He is survived by two brothers, James Harry, of West Graham, and Charles Harry of Roanoke, Va., and by the following children by his first wife: Arthur S. Harry, of Ashland, Ky; John B. Harry, Princeton, W. Va.; Roby J. Tabor, Salem, Va.; Walter C. Harry, of Pocahontas [VA], Clarence M. Harry, Pocahontas; Marion Harry, Falls Mills; Mrs. W. W. Thompson; Miss Mary Harry, Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. Lawrence Mahood, Columbus, Ohio." (249) Isaiah and Meldora (Tabor) Harry were the parents of nine children: (250) i. Arthur S. Harry was born in July 1886. ii. John B. Harry was born in December 1887. "Mr. J. B. Harry brought his bride in from New River, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Harry, is an attractive lady and has many friends here; she visited here before her marriage. (251) iii. Bertha Harry was born in September 1890. In October 1910, Bertha was a bridesmaid at the wedding of J. G. Fink and Roxie Moses. (252) iv. Robert J. "Roby" Harry was born in September 1892. In 1920, Roby lived in Falls Mills, Clearfork District with his wife, Mamie L. (-?-). Mamie was born about 1895 in Virginia. (253) v. Walter C. Harry was born in February 1896. vi. Clarence M. Harry was born in November 1897. vii. Marion Harry was born circa 1901. Marion was married to Irene Sturges, daughter of William L. Sturges (1865-1928) and Mollie D. (-?-) (ca. 1868-????). (254) viii. Mary Harry was born circa 1903. ix. Eulah (Alah?) G. Harry was born circa 1905. James R. Harry was born circa 1872 in Tazewell County, Virginia, son of John B. Harry, Jr. and Margaret Dedmons. (255) He was married on 4 January 1893 in Tazewell County, Virginia to Cynthia Virginia 'Jennie' Compton. (256) Jennie was born in October 1873, daughter of Ballard Preston Compton (1845-1909) and Delilah Harless (1845-1918). (257) In 1900, James worked as a farmer in the Clearfork District. Jennie had had three children and all were living at home- Dora, William, and Ellie. (258) In January 1902, James and Jennie visited James' brother Isaiah. (259) In March 1905, A. P. Tabor spent the night at James' home in Taborville. (260) In 1910, James and Jennie were still living in Tazewell County with their five children. (261) In October 1910 it was reported that "J. R. Harry, of Falls Mills, was in town last week making arrangements to move to Pulaski county, near New River, where he has bought a farm. Mr. Harry is one of the best citizens in the county and will be missed." (262) James died sometime after the death of his brother Isaiah in July 1936. (263) James and Jennie (Compton) Harry were the parents of five children: i. Dora Elizabeth Harry was born on 23 April 1894 in Virginia. She was married on 8 October 1913 in Tazewell County to Berkeley Kelly Tabor. (264) Berkeley was born on 6 May 1892 in Tazewell County, son of Elgin Whitley Tabor and Octavia Zane Tiller. ii. Charles William 'Willie' Harry was born in September 1895 in Virginia. iii. Ella Mae 'Ellie' Harry was born in August 1898 in Virginia. Ellie was married to Henry T. Goforth, Sr.. (265) iv. Buford Harry was born circa 1905 in Virginia. v. Henry Harry was born circa 1907 in Virginia. HAWLEY James L. Hawley was born circa 1851 in Montgomery County, Virginia, son of John Hawley and Charlotte (-?-). (266) He was married by Adam Waggoner on 23 April 1874 in Tazewell County to Martha Ann Tabor. Martha was born on 17 March 1855, daughter of Andrew Jackson Tabor and Juline/Juliana Belcher. (267) In 1880, James and Martha lived in Tazewell County. James worked as a farmer and Martha cared for their three children: Ada, Cana, and Maggie. (268) In 1900, the family lived in Clearfork, where James was employed as a teamster. Martha was caring for eight children at this time: Maggie, Willie, Stella, Nannie, Nathan, James, John, and Floyd/Lloyd. (269) Their daughter Nannie was also listed with her grandmother, Julina Tabor in this census. In June 1902, James was "of Brushy Fork" when he visited Taborville on a Sunday. (270) That September he visited again, this time it was stated that he lived at Italy [Leaks]. (271) James and Martha (Tabor) Hawley were the parents of ten children: (272) i. Ada J. Hawley was born about 1875 in Tazewell County, Virginia. ii. Annie/Connie Ardelia Hawley was born 30 January 1878 at Falls Mills, Tazewell County. She was married in January 1898 in Tazewell County to James Brittain Tabor. James was born in April 1877, son of William J. Tabor and Elizabeth Jane 'Betsy' Crockett. (273) iii. Margaret J. Hawley was born in either May 1879 or June 1880 in Tazewell County. iv. Willie [Edna?] Hawley in August 1881 in Tazewell County. v. Stella Hawley in December 1884 probably in Tazewell County. vi. Nancy Lou 'Nannie' Hawley was born on 30 October 1885 in Virginia. She was married to Caswell P. 'Cas' Barnhill. Cas was born on 3 December 1881. (274) vii. Nathan R. Hawley was born in March 1889. viii. James B. Hawley was born in March 1891. ix. John A. Hawley was born in April 1893. x. Lloyd B. Hawley was born on 3 March 1894. (275) PERDUE Henry Silas Perdue was born in February 1859 in Virginia, son of Henry Silas Perdue (circa 1814-1890) and Nancy Jane Powell (circa 1824-circa 1890). (276) In 1860, Henry was a one-year-old child living with his parents and six siblings in Mercer County, Virginia (today West Virginia). (277) By 1870, the family was in Spanishburg, Rock township, Mercer County and Henry's mother was caring for ten children. (278) In 1880, Henry worked on his father's farm. (279) Henry was married on 4 May 1881 in Tazewell County to Laura Jane Wagoner. (280) Laura was born on 13 September 1857 at Bluestone, Tazewell County, daughter of Rev. Adam Edward Waggoner (1830-1884) and Juline/Julianna Elinor Tabor (1834-1912). (281) In 1900, Henry was a farmer living in Clearfork District with his wife Laura. She was caring for their four children, listed as Granville, William, George, and Florence. (282) In March 1905 the local newspaper reported that: Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Tabor were visiting the home of H. S. Perdue last Sunday. Ballard says he got value received for his visit when he was invited to the dining room at noon where he spent about 30 minutes as busy as a bee. (283) In April 1905, Henry "purchased a fine young mule last week from J. W. Johnson. The price was $100." (284) In 1910, Henry and Laura lived on their farm with three of their children: Granville, Giles, and Florence. (285) In 1920, the couple lived with their daughter Florence V. Absher in Falls Mills. (286) Henry and Laura (Waggoner) Perdue were the parents of six children: (287) i. Granville Smith Perdue was born in December 1882 in Tazewell County, Virginia. He was married on 8 February 1914 in Tazewell County to Sallie Jane Wagner. (288) Sallie was born on 10 July 1892 in Mudfork, Tazewell County, the daughter of George Miles Wagner and Nannie Lane Tabor. Granville died on 15 May 1943 in Tazewell County, committing suicide after murdering C. M. Hill [Charles McGriffin Hill]. (289) Hill was married to Granville Perdue's wife's sister. (290) ii. William Hesper/Hesperus 'Hess' Perdue was born in November 1884. (291) William was married to Bertha Elizabeth Tabor on 26 December 1906 in Tazewell County. (292) Bertha was born on 15 March 1887 in Tazewell County, daughter of Elgan Whitley Tabor and Octavia Zane Tiller. iii. Helen Perdue was born about 1885. She was married to Robert Stowers. iv. Giles Allen Perdue was born in September 1886 in Tazewell County. v. Glenn N. Perdue was born about 1887 in Tazewell County. He was married on 10 June 1912 in Tazewell County to Elizabeth S. Brooks. Elizabeth was born about 1890, daughter of Erastus Brooks and Margaret (--?--). (293) vi. Florence Virginia Perdue was born in September 1889 in Tazewell County. She visited her uncle B. W. Tabor in Taborville in March 1905. (294) In August 1910 it was reported that: Dr. Sheppard carried Miss Florence Perdue to Bluefield last week and removed a large tumor from her eye. The patient is getting along nicely.
