S.S. On this 16th day of August 1854 personally appeared before me Johnathan Smith a Justice of the Peace in and for the county and state aforesaid Zachariah Perdue aged 80 years a resident of the County of Mercer in the State of Virginia who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the indentical fellow soldier who was a private in the company commanded by Captain Courtland Cavaniss, in the War with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812, that in the County of Franklin, Va he was drafted on or about the first of February 1815, for the term of three months, and continued in actual service for the term of something near two months and was honorable discharged in the city of Richmond 200 miles from where he entered the service on about the last of March or first of April 1815 and 200 miles back to Franklin as will appear by the muster rolls of said company, his actual certificate of discharge being lost. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he maybe entitled under the act granting bounty land to certain officiers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States passed September 28, 1850. He further declares that this is the only application that he has made, and that the reason why he makes his application in the county of Tazewell is, that he lives near the line between the two counties and that it is more convenient to make his application in Tazewell than in Mercer County.
