Whitewood Woman Dies of Injuries Thrown From Car In Accident Near Richlands Sunday A 25 year-old Whitewood, Va., woman died Tuesday morning in Clinch Valley Clinic of Richlands, Va., victim of injuries suffered in a single - vehicle highway mishap near Richlands Sunday afternoon state police said. The victim was Mrs. Mereleen Shelton Cantrel. Her physician said she suffered severe head injuries and had been in critical condition since the mishap. Husband Hurt Also injured was her husband, Tonny Neal Cantrel, driver of the auto. He remained under treatment at the Clinic Tuesday night suffering back and leg injuries but was not considered seriously hurt. State police said Cantrel was the driver of a 1950 model sedan that failed to negotiate a curve and crashed 5.8 miles north of Richlands, on Rt. 67 in Tazewell County, at 1:35 p.m. Sunday. The auto slammed into a cliff, police said. Mrs. Cantrel was thrown from the auto. Delp Investigates Trooper S. C. Delp was conducting the investigation. Mrs. Cantrel was a native of Tazewell County, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Ed Shelton of Ravens, Va. Additional survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Herman Allen of Richlands, Polly Marie Shelton and Connie Shelton of the home; one brother, Joe Shelton of the home. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Farmer Funeral Home Chapel of Richlands, with Rev. W. W. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Va. Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Wednsday.
