FRIGHTFUL RUNAWAY (Typed as written) Mother and Three Children Thrown Out MRS. COMMODORE COMPTON, of Clear Fork, was thrown from a vehicle Wednesday, just opposite the Republican office, and painfully shaken up and bruised, though, strange as it seems, not seriously hurt. Mrs. Compton, in a 2 horse hack (and her children) were returning from a visit to Thompson Valley. She had with her a daughter about 16 years of age, a son about 12, and a baby about two years old. In passing through town Mrs. Compton purchased a number of chairs and other pieces of furniture, and started home about 11 o’clock. In turning the corner at upper main street a front wheel of the back caught in some way on a rail of the car line, and the horses becoming frightened (sped?) off down the street at a rapid gait. Mrs. Compton and children were scattered along the street. One wheel of the wagon was broken, and several chairs smashed to pieces. The baby was bruised up a little but not much hurt. The wonder is that some of the occupants was not killed or seriously injured. Mr. Compton was communicated with by phone, and came up and took his wife and children home on horseback. [Commodore Perry Compton’s, s/o James M. Compton & Lucinda Hix. Commodore Compton’s wife was Agnes L. Stowers, d/o Peter & Arminta Stowers.
