Friday, May 9, 1902 J. A. Leslie, Editor, Cost: $1:00 per year-in advance Distributed each Friday VARIOUS AREAS FALLS MILLS, May 7, MR. E. A. DEATON and MISS DORA L. STAFFORD were married at the home of the bride’s mother near Trigg, Giles Co., Va., last Thursday. We wish the happy couple success through life. (Edward A. Deaton , the s/o Rev. Fabius Levi Deaton & Sarah Regina’ Virginia’ Shrader who was the d/o James Britton Shrader & Mary ‘Polly’ Day). Also see two related articles below in Taborsville and Graham or Italy Leaks. Edward A. Deaton certainly must have been well known to have been mentioned by three contributors to the" Clinch Valley News." We are informed that W. B. and J. W. TABOR will put goods in the Kertner Building in a short time (This one has me stumped as there were more than one W. B. & J. W. Tabor in the general area at the time. My assumption is that they were the two sons listed of Thomas Edward ‘Edd’ Tabor, Sr. I will list a few possibilities: J. W. TABOR 1. Joseph Wade Tabor, s/o Thomas Edward ‘Edd’ Tabor, Sr., & Anna Elizabeth Parker 2. Joseph Wade Tabor (yes another one) , s/o James Harrison Tabor & Nancy Moore Runyon 3. James Wingo Tabor, s/o Samuel Flummer Tabor & Charlotte Osburn 4. Jacob W. Tabor ?too young, b. 1888, s/o Charles Lee Tabor & Mary A. Doyle. W. B. W. B. TABOR 1. William Burts Tabor , s/o Thomas Edward ‘Edd’ Tabor, Sr & Anna Elizabeth Parker. 2. William B. ‘Billy’ Tabor s/o James Harrison Tabor & Nancy Moore Runyon 3. William BLAKE Tabor, s/o William C. Tabor and his first wife, Sarah V. Butt. However, William BLAKE Tabor , known as BLAKE Tabor lived in Pierce Co., ND. Blake Tabor had been in Falls Mills VA in May of 1901 setting up his father’s business-this from an "Clinch Valley News’ article of Friday, May 3, 1901 from Falls Mills. Now, this MIGHT have meant that his father, William C. Tabor, and his second wife, Sarah Jane Mullins, had returned from ND as they are listed there in the 1900 Pierce Co., ND Census. William C. Tabor, s/o Andrew Jackson Tabor-killed in the Civil War & Juliana Belcher. (See below) 1900 PIERCE CO ND CENSUS Rugby, North Dakota Pierce Co. 1900 Rugby Village, District 104 6th day of June, 1900 by: Fred D. Smith # 78/71 WILLIAM C. TABOR Head...49 [b] 2/1851 Va/VA/VA Merchant married 23 yrs....this must be a total number of years. There is also in parenthesis what appears to be "married second time" Current marriage is 2 years. Dau.....12 [b] 10/1887 VA/VA ………………… BENBOW, Va., May 7, (Also listed under the Falls Mills area, on this same day, which I had submitted in an earlier file) MR. JAMES H. TABOR, who lived about two and a half miles from here, and who was well known by almost everybody in the county, died at his home yesterday morning at 8:30. MR. TABOR had been very sick for two weeks with pneumonia fever and other complications, He leaves a wife and eight children to mourn his loss. (James Howard Tabor, s/o Stephen Harrison Tabor & Mary Jane Brooks. James H. Tabor was married to Mary Jane Brooks). …………………….. BAILEY, Va., May 5, MISS MARY WAGNER, who was thrown from a horse and hurt, some two weeks ago, is said to be almost well. (Mary’s accident had appeared in the "Clinch Valley News ", from Bailey, on Friday, April 25, 1902. I have submitted this article earlier) ( As I stated when I posted the April 25, 1902 article I believe this was May Angie Wagner. The closest Wagner family -with a daughter named Mary, was a couple my mom, Hettie Marie Shrader Eagle, dearly loved in her youth, Charles Alexander Wagner & Jane Annabelle "Annie" Bailey. Because my mom and the other young folks around Mud Fork often walked to Bailey I can believe that Mary Angie Wagner, daughter of Paris Witcher Wagner & Patria Ann Perdue would have ridden her horse to that area from Mud Fork. Therefore, I believe that Mary is Mary Angie Wagner). Patria is the correct name not Patricia for Patria Ann Perdue Wagner. …….. TABORVILLE, May 4, MR. and MRS. I. H. HARRY , of Falls Mills, were visiting in our town last Sunday. (Isaiah Henderson Harry and Meldora Moore Tabor, d/o John Andrew Tabor and his first wife, of three, Martha A. Compton.) MR. and MRS. E. A DEATON were visiting on Belcher street. Edward is no longer an old bachelor. (Edward A. Deaton & Dora Lila Stafford. Edward A. Deaton , s/o Rev. Fabius Levi Deaton and Sarah Regina ‘Virginia’ Shrader) MR and MRS C. C. FRENCH, of Bailey, were over last Sunday visiting their son-in-law, Mr. Tobe Belcher. [Charles Campbell French & Nancy Abigail Pauley. Their children: 1. Beldora/Bell Dora French married Tobias Albert ‘Tobe’ Belcher who was the son of Isom Green Belcher and Mary Catherine Deaton (aunt of Edward A. Deaton mentioned above). 2. Luella French married Cyrus Monroe Tabor, s/o Thomas Edward Tabor, Sr., & Anna Elizabeth Parker 3. Carra W. French married James Robert Dudley, s/o James Craig Dudley & Mariah Elizabeth/Louis e Tabor who was the d/o Francis Tabor & Mary Shrader (NOT Sanders-incorrect in Tazewell Co., VA marriage records!) 4. John Stinson French married Susie Chaney Fergueson 5. James Harvey French-no other data 5. Ezekiel Shell French married Lena Hortense Rowlett THOMAS HILL is on the sick list this week. We hope he will soon be out again. (I BELIEVE this to be the son of Wiley G. Hill & Nancy Bye Perdue) It is reported on good authority that a ten-foot vein of coal has been found on the land of BOB THOMPSON (sic) on Mud Fork, about six miles west of Falls Mills. We hope this is more coal than excitement. (Sometimes they got the name Thompson & Thomason mixed-up. There was NO Robert Thompson on Mud Fork, in 1902, old enough to own land. There was a Robert THOMASON, s/o James DANIEL Thomason & Elizabeth Deaton. I believe it was Robert THOMASON) Elizabeth Deaton the brother of Rev. Fabius Levi Deaton mentioned above. They were the children of Nathan Deaton and Sarah F. Mitchell). G. P. MC MULLEN (sic) of Springville, was in our town collecting taxes last week. (George Paris Mc Mullin, s/o James H. McMullin & Elizabeth Boil/Boyle) George’s brother ,Samuel Houston Mc Mullin , married Martha Jane Columbus Tabor, d/o Russell B. Tabor & Elizabeth Compton). C. E. COMPTON, whose name has been mentioned in the news as being sick is reported better to-day, but is still in dangerous condition. (Charles E.Compton, s/o Ballard Preston Compton & Delilah Harless. I show C. E. Compton married twice, first to Emma J. Poe, b. abt 1872, d. Sep 1980, and second to Sallie M. Johnson). ……. GRAHAM, or ITALY/ITALY LEAKS Va (Top missing from hard copy) MISS NANNIE TABOR and MISS CALLIE SADLER were shopping at Graham last week. [I believe this to be Nancy Moore ’ Nannie’ Tabor the d/o Thomas Edward ‘Edd’ Tabor, Sr.,and Anna Elizabeth Parker ONLY because Nannie Tabor & Callie Sadler lived near each other. As a mater of fact, they lived on adjoining properties in 1900 Tazewell Co., VA., Clear Fork District Census . Nancy Moore Tabor married Andrew McLean Belcher. There were OTHER Nannie/ Nancy Tabor’s in the general area but not living as close as these two young women. Callie Saddler./Sadler was the d/o William W. Saddler & Chloe Ardelia Tabor the daughter of Andrew Jackson Tabor-killed in Civil War & Julina Belcher. Callie Sadler married Ambrose C. H.(Horton?) Jones and I have never been able to find any children listed for them]. The marriage of E. A. DEATON broke the bachelor ring at this place. (Edward A. Deaton ?see article at top) I. H. HARRY attended the Masonic Lodge at Graham last Saturday night (Isaiah Henderson Harry, s/o John Harry and the third, of three wives, Margaret E. Dedmons. I. H. Harry married Meldora Moore Tabor, d/o John Andrew Tabor and his first, of three wives, Martha A. Compton). J. H. HARRY was in the city last Tuesday. (I believe this MIGHT have been the 15 year old son, John Harry, son of Isaiah Henderson Harry & Meldora Moore Tabor as I see no other John Harrys in the area . John Harry, the father of I. H. Harry, died abt 1887). Uncle SAMMY TABOR was in town last Tuesday. He frightened us by predicting a cold spell of weather. yet; as he is a weather prophet. We (will) look for the cold spell. (Samuel Flummer Tabor, s/o Daniel Tabor & Mary Martha Flummer). ED BUCKLAND is located in Branwell in the employ of American Bridge Co. (Charles Edward ‘Ed’ Buckland, Sr., s/o William Jasper Buckland & Emily ‘Emma’ Tabor who was the d/o James Harrison Tabor & Nancy Moore Runyon). MISS GRACE HAWKINS, of Tazewell, is visiting the family of MR. ROBERT GILLESPIE (No idea) We are informed that MR. C. A. BUTT, of Big Branch, is very sick but (I) did not learn his trouble. [No idea. I have a lot of the Butt family in my 37, 428 (thirty-seven thousand four hundred and twenty-eight) name file, but I do not have a C. A. Butt) Your correspondent at Italy is improving slowly (This is the reason I think this MIGHT be submitted from Italy./Italy Leaks, VA) Somewhere I heard that this early settlement was then called Italy or Italy Leaks due to all the Italian stone cutters who came from Italy to work in the stone quarry??
