FLOYD FRANCISCO, of Bluefield, paid Bailey a flying visit last week.…………. MRS. J. E. WAGNER has been absent for some time visiting her brother, REV. JAMES FLENOR contemplates moving to Tennessee in the near future. ………… MISS GRAY WAGNER returned to her home last Wednesday after a two months visit among friends in Giles county. [ I believe to have been Ozella Gray Wagner, d/o Elias Green Wagner and his first wife, Martha Alice Bailey. Elias Green Wagner, known as Green Wagner, later married Mary Ann ’Mollie’ Kinzer who was the d/o John Broce Kinzer & Clarissa Jennette Tabor a d/o Richard Adam Tabor & Mildred Permelia ‘Milly’ Shrader]. The Green Wagner family moved to Bland Co., Virginia about October 1909]. ………………. After a fortnights stay among friends here, MRS. CHARLES DEATON returned to her home at Davy, W. Va. [There were two Mrs. Charles Deatons, in the area, during this time. I am not able to say which it was. Both women were in the1900 Tazewell Co., VA Census. Both women were also second wives. Mrs. Charles L. Deaton was Effie Emma Vernon and Mrs. Charles Anderson Deaton was Rebecca Ann Martin. >From the Friday, April 19, 1901 edition of "Clinch Valley News," also submitted from Bailey, VA: Mr. & Mrs. C. A. Deaton were summoned on yesterday to the bedside of their sister, MRS. ELIZABETH THOMASON, Mrs. Elizabeth Thomason is not expected to live. This 1901 entry would make we assume that it was Rebecca Ann (Martin) Deaton. That is just a guess! Charles Anderson Deaton’s fist wife was Sarah Frances ‘Fannie’ Mc Claugherty Charles L. Deaton’s first wife was Electra SHRADER, d/o David Shrader, Jr., and his first wife, Chloe Dillion. David & Chloe Shrader were my great great grandparents]. Deaton and his second wife) ……………… MISS MAGGIE PETERS is visiting her sister , MRS. RICHARDSON at Bell Springs and poor Will looks "mighty sad.’ …………………… The "DAISY PARTY" given by MISS JENNIE BAILEY last Wednesday evening was in every way a most enjoyable event. The long dining room was tastefully decorated with festoons of daisies, and beautifully lighted by soft rays of Japanese lanterns. The table, which accommodated 20 guests, was made more lovely by its many vases and wreaths of daisies. Every lady wore daisies and when the gentlemen arrived they were proudly served with boquets (sic) by the little flower girls-MISSES FRANKIE BOONE and EVA DEATON, and to the music of "Sweet Bunch of Daisies,’ rendered by MISS ELLA WAGNER. The guests repaired to the dining room where they partook to their hearts content of the delicious refreshments served by the hostess. Among those from a distance was MR. W. F. BOONE, of Lynchberg; MR. ARTHUR BOONE, of Monroe county, W. Va., and MR. ED WAGNER of Davy, W. Va. [I believe to have been Virginia B. ‘Jennie’ Bailey , d/o Jesse Bailey & Mary Ann Shannon. Eva Deaton I believe to be Eva Mae Deaton, d/o George Thomas Deaton & Mary Dorinda ‘Mollie’ Bailey who was the sister of Virginia B. ‘Jennie’ Bailey. I am not familiar with the Boones mentioned in the article or how they relate to the Bailey family. Ella Wagner could have been Amanda Ella Wagner the d/o Charles Alexander Wagner & Jane Annabelle ‘Annie’ Bailey, or Ella S. Wagner, d/o Rev. William Nathan Wagner . Charles Alexander & William Nathan Wagner were brothers and sons of David Nicewander Waggoner/Wagner & Mariah E. Deaton. There is a possibility the Mr. Ed Wagner was Edward Mustard Wagner, 1884-1936 and the s/o Charles Alexander Wagner & Jane Annabelle ‘Annie’ (Bailey) Wagner. My mother, Hettie Marie (Shrader) Eagle, loved Charles & Annie (Bailey) Wagner. Annie’s "potato bread’ was wonderful according to mom. Of course, I can imagine a lot of food would have tasted good after a walk from Mudfork, Tazewell Co., VA to Bailey, Tazewell Co., VA, as my mother did to visit Annie (Bailey) Wagner’s grandchildren and mom’s cousins, Lillian Beatrice ‘Sister’ & William Kenneth Tabor, children of Amanda Ella Wagner & William David ‘Bill’ Tabor. William David Tabor, s/o Elgin Whitley Tabor & Octavia Zane Tiller. Octavia Zane (Tiller) Tabor was known as ‘Aunt Oca’ by all the young people in the area and was greatly beloved]. ……………. We regret very much that MR.GRAYSON FARMER , who has been in our midst for quite a while, acting as foreman for WALTON & CO., will soon take his departure. He will be succeded by MR. WILLIAM DIFFENDAUL, of Newport News. [Walton & Co., one of the several companies owned by Maj. Samuel Walton] ……………….. SECOND SUBMISSION FROM BAILEY-SAME DATE Bailey, August 19th We are sorry to report that MRS. MC TEER SAUNDERS has taken a relapse. It was thought by all that she was getting well. She went about the house where she pleased and was taking an interest in having things don, until Tuesday last. She was sitting at the table when she suddenly gave away and fell just like she did some weeks ago, and is said to remain unconcious (sic). Her case seems to baffle the skill of all of her physicians. ………….. MRS. MATHEW SCOTT, of Giles county and her little son, MASTER JOHN, paid a visit to her father and mother,, MR. and MRS JAMES T. MOORE last week. [Margaret E. Moore whose mother, as mentioned above, is Sarah A. W. Caldwell]. …………….. MRS. G. W. GILL, of Bluefield, was the guest of her aunt, MRS. HOUNSHELL (sic), Saturday night and Sunday. [The aunt was Mrs. Julia A. (Moore) Houndsell-wife of Andrew Houndsell and the d/o Joseph Addison Moore & Martha Pogue (Moore) Moore. I do not know the identity of Mrs. G.W. Gill-not found in the 1900 Tazewell Co VA Census for some reason]. Karen EAGLE Moman arizonaeagle@qwest.net May 2002
