TAZEWELL COUNTY, VA - NEWSPAPERS - Clinch Valley News, 24 Oct 1902, Tip Top ----¤¤¤---- "Clinch Valley News" Tazewell, Tazewell Co., VA Friday, October 24, 1902 VISIT OF AGED CITIZEN Tip Top, Va., Oct. 23 Jno. R. Compton, a former citizen of Tazewell, but now of Roanoke, is on a visit to relatives and friends on Bluestone and vicinity. His is 78 years old, hale and hearty, and weighs 283 (sic) pounds. He talks a great deal of olden times, and can tell many incidents of 50 years ago. He was in the cattle trade for forty-three years, and is stopping with his sisters, Mrs. James Mc Dowell and Mrs. Elizabeth Tabor. He had many relatives in Tazewell and a great many friends who remember him in later years, but there are very few of his old associates now living . He was born on Bluestone, about 3 miles west of Graham and is a descendant of the Royal Scotch-Irish [Son of William & Jane Compton. Mrs. Elizabeth Tabor was the wife of Russell B. Tabor. I do not know the given name of the sister married to James McDowell, however, a sister, Martha Jane Compton, was married to William D. McDowell]. ADDED DATA: I believe this is the John R. Compton in the article-my opinion. Not proven. John R.
