GILLESPIE'S ford last Saturday night, were captured at Broad ford Monday by Policeman H.E. SHAMBLIN of Pounding Mill and H.G. GILLESPIE. The supply of gasoline became exhausted at a point beyond Jeff GILLESPIE'S in the west end of the county, and the car was abandoned, and the youthful auto thieves were making their way afoot when overtaken by the officer. They were brought here to jail. MYERS was convicted here recently for an offence committed at Pounding Mill, and would have been taken to the reform school but for the influence of prominent citizens who secured his release. Squire C.T. PATTON has been suffering from a severe attack of indigestion since Sunday, when he was the guest of his daughter, Mrs. Sam LAMBERT in Bluefield. Glen RATLIFF, a prominent citizen of Buchanan County, came over to this town on business this week. Miss Letha WHITAKER, the accommodating central operator, who has been ill at her home at North Tazewell has recovered and is back at work again. Miss Lula M. JONES, of Fairmont West Virginia was at home for the funeral of her grandfather, Thomas HANKINS. Miss Louise JACKSON spent last weekend in Bluefield as the guest of Mrs. Henry PERKINS. Dr. W.G. CROCKETT, of the Medical College of Virginia staff, spent Easter here with his mother, Mrs. John W. CROCKETT. Judge and Mrs. S.C. GRAHAM have returned from their winter's stay in Florida. Enroute they stopped over for Easter in Richmond. Mrs. R. Walter DICKENSON, of Russell, celebrated Easter with her daughter here, Mrs. A.S. HIGGINBOTHAM. C.W. STEELE, Robert MOORE and Joe Gnat JOHNSON, of the Virginia Smokeless Jewell Ridge office in this town, where at Jewell Ridge this week to assist Superintendent WALKER in getting the mines started again JOHNSON expects to remain on the ridge for an indefinite period. Mr. and Mrs. Patrick MCKENRY, who have been here several weeks as guests of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. SCOTT, have gone to Lynchburg, where Mr. MCKENRY has secured a position. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas HAWKINS have returned home from Florida where they spent a very pleasant two months, both much improved in health. BURKES GARDEN Miss Bettie GROSECLOSE veteran teacher of the county, spent Easter in the Garden with her many friends. Little Misses Mary MOSS and Eleanor GREEVER have been confined to their homes with chickenpox. The following young people spent the Easter holidays with their parents: Misses Gene and Jessylene GOSE from Marion College; Messrs John and Rufus THOMPSON and Bowen MEEK from Randolph Macon Academy. Mrs. John THOMPSON has been suffering with a severe case of inflammatory rheumatism. A large number of the children of the community gathered at the Lutheran parsonage Tuesday afternoon for the their annual Easter egg hunt. Mr. Ewing LAWSON spent several days of last week in Wytheville. Mrs. STRONG spent Easter with her parents.
