But our friends here urge us to write again, and as the preacher says, "You can take back an affirmation, when you find you are wrong," so here we go again. An almost constant rain for the past two days and nights. Clinch full and still raining. The following persons attended the quarterly meeting at Maxwell on last Sunday viz: Mrs. Melvin ANDERSON, Mr. and Mrs. Richard WHITE, Mrs. John AZBURY, Miss Matilda ANDERSON, Messrs. Will MCGRAW, R.M. SPARKS and C.P. WILLIAMS. Rev. P.J. LOCKHART filled his appointment here Sunday, in his usual good and appreciative style. The section hands according to orders, went to Cedar Bluff this forenoon, and were vaccinated by Dr. W.E. BAYLOR. Mrs. C.P. WILLIAMS is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. BROWN, near Witten's Mills, her husband accompanied her on a surveying expedition. Mrs. LESTER, was married to Mr. MORAN at this place, by Rev. C.L. ROBINETT, the wedding that caused several persons to almost break their necks, while running to witness it, the event of which we mentioned recently, returned to this place for Graham, in the course of two weeks, enroute for the farm she had left in the Cove. Her husband had failed to comply with his contract, in which he agreed to take care of her two step children, children of her second husband "We see where her foot was on the rock," and therefore, leave no reflection, whatever, on the said minister who tied the knot so hurriedly, yet insecurely. Mr. R.S. WILLIAMS will leave for Canada tomorrow, where he goes to join Mr. Emile LOW'S engineering corps. Mrs. J. Marion MCGUIRE, of Cedar Bluff, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. W.B. STEELE and children, who spent a couple days at Tazewell returned Sunday. Mr. H.G. WILLIAMS who has been attending Old Dominion College at Richlands, has had a severe spell of sickness and returned to his home at this place to recuperate. Miss Lizzie LAMBERT invited a number of her lady and gentlemen friends to tea on last Saturday. A nice time was reported. Mr. Sheffey STURGILL came down from Bluefield on last Saturday "to pay off" but said, as Cyrus WILLIAMS and R.M. SPARKS, who had in most time, were not present he would defer the business untill an indefinite time. Mr. STURGILL was heartily welcomed by his old friends here, and returned Sunday to his home in Bluefield. Mrs. C.H. STEELE and Miss Julia WITT, of Paint Lick spent one day last week with their relatives Mr. and Mrs. W.B. STEELE. A number of Mr. and Mrs. BRYANT'S friends and including your correspondent, attended a storm social at the home of the former. "Uncle Jimmie" HOBACK and Mr. Willie LAMBERT entertained the crowd with their excellent music, the former with his comic songs, the latter with his instrumental pieces. Mr. Willie LAMBERT has returned from Staunton, because he didn't like the Superintendent. Mr. James BARNES has moved his children to their grandfather's Mr. C.L. ROBINETTS.
