Born in Bland, he was a son of the late Newton and Maple Byrd Neel. He was a member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church. He was a former co-owner of Kitts and Neel Auto Repair and was employed by McCann Motors as an auto mechanic at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maggie L. Neel; one daughter, Mrs. Winifrey McCann of Tazewell; one son, Buford Neel of Tazewell; three sisters, Mrs. Addie Lawson of Fairmont, Mrs. Larue Fox of Richmond, and Mrs. Gladys Gregory of Mt. Vernon, OH; two brothers, Reaborn Neel of Bluefield and William Neel of Bluefield, VA; three half sisters, Mrs. Mary Stowers, Mrs. Georgia Durham and Mrs. Edith Blankenship, all of Bluefield, VA; two half brothers, Freddie and Edward Neel, both of Bluefield, VA; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 25, at 2:30 pm at Peery and St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Smith, Rev. Joe McCoy and Rev. Max Linkous officiating. Burial followed in Grandview Memory Gardens on Bluefield Tazewell Road. MRS. TAYLOR BOWMAN Mrs. Taylor (Marjorie Gertrude) Bowman, 77, of P.O. Box 508, Madison Heights, died Tuesday afternoon April 20 in a Lynchburg hospital after a long illness. Born in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of the late Wade and Imogene Creed Pruett. Survivors include one son, Garland Bowman of Madison Heights; one step daughter, Margaret Hardy of Mesa AZ; five brothers, Therman and Homer Pruett, both of Mansfield, OH, Jack Pruett of Van Wert, OH, Bill Pruett of Bandy, and Joe Pruett of Sparta OH; three sisters, Mrs Elmer (Thelma) Davis, of Boissiean, Mrs. Avery Sparks of Cedar Bluff, and Mrs. Daisy French of Warren Robins Ga.; three grandchildren, two step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were conducted Friday April 23 at 2 pm at the Rodriguez Pocahontas with the Rev. Orville Cox officiating. Burial followed in Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield. Rodriguez-Pocahontas Union Funeral Home in Pocahontas was in charge of the arrangements. MRS. ALBERT HILL Mrs. Albert L. (Mary Jane) Hill, 91, of Tazewell, died Tuesday morning, April 20, in a Tazewell hospital after a short illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late John and Sarah Brown Hill. Survivors include two sons, James H. Hill of Tazewell and Raymond Hill of Springville, two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Crouse of Cedar Bluff and Mrs. Gracie Griffith of Raven; three brothers, Paul Hill of Tazewell, Tommy and George Hill, both of Pounding Mill; one sister, Mrs. Millie Quesenberry of Tazewell, 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and two great great grand children. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sons and one daughter. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 22, at 11 am at Peery and St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with Rev. David Bailey officiating. Burial followed in Witten Valley Cemetery. Pallbearers: Robert Hill, Kenneth Crouse, Jackie Witten, Tom Murray, Don Keene, Danny Keene and Richie Grinstead. RUFUS LOONEY Rufus Frieland Looney, 62, of Bluefield Va, died Thrusday, April 22, in a Bluefield hospital after a long illness. Born in Bastian, he was a son of the late Crockett and Pricy Childress Looney. He had been employed by the Water Department of Bluefield, VA for 33 years, and had served in the US Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Virginia Harmon Looney; four sons, Brian Looney of the home, and Michael, Allen and Kenny Looney, all of Bluefield, VA; two daughters, Cindy Looney of the home and Mrs. Marc (Nancy) Turpin of Bluefield VA; three brothers, Harless and Kent Looney, both of Bastian, and Marvin Looney of Athens; tow sisters, Mrs. J.H. (Margaret) Harmon of Bluefield, VA and Mrs. Stewart (Lucille) Thomlinson of Orlando FL; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Looney. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 24, at 2pm in the Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, with Rev. Leroy Beckner and Rev. Evelyn Thomas officiating. Burial followed in Grandview Memory Gardens at Bluefield Va. The family suggests memorials be made to the Bluefield, VA rescue squad or the Children's Temple Mission in Bluefield Va. MRS. WALTER ST. CLAIR Mrs. Walter G. (Jamie H.) St. Clair, 92, of 418 Pickett Lane, Herndon, a former Mercer County resident, died in a Herndon hospital Thursday morning April 22 after a long illness. She was born at Elgood and was a daughter of the late William and Pethelia Wiley Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include for sons, Bernard "Bum" St. Clair of Pittsburg Pa, Billy St. Clair fo Scorborow, Paul St. Clair of Herndon and Perry St. Clair of Culpepper; four daughters, Mrs. Polly Alvis of Bluefield, Mrs. Eloise Dray of Circlesville Oh, Mrs. Lucille Nuckolls and Mrs. Sylvia Sprinkle, both of Kernersivell, NC; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Dent of Glen Lyn, Mrs. Lillie Mae Sizemore of Glen Rogers and Mrs. Grace Marfield of Honaker; and four brothers, Walter Holdren of Wheeling, Clyde Holdren of Radford, Donald Holdren of Rich Creek and Keeny Holdren of Glen Lyn. Thirty one grandhildren and 38 great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted Sunday April 25 at 2pm at Burns Wornal Chpel of Memorail Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Rev. K.B. Arnold officiating. Burial followed in Elgood Cemetery at Elgood. ARMON SMITH SR. Armon Leonard Smith Sr. 63, of Princeton, formerly of Bluefield, died Wednesday, April 21, in a Virginia Beach hospital after a long illness. Born in Tazewell County, he was a son of the late William Lilbert and Mae Lawson Smith. He was a retired miner for the Consolidation Coal Co. at Bishop and was a member of United Mine Workers Local No. 6025. Survivors include four sons, Leonard Smith Jr. of North Tazewell; Roy Smith of Princeton, Clayton Smith of Virginia Beach and Troy Smith of Pocahontas; two daughters, Mrs. Geneva Tolbert and Mrs. Karen Marshall, both of Virginia Beach; one brother, William W. Smith of Springville; three sisters, Bertha Taylor of Piney View, Grace Dye of Tazewell and Goldene Akers of Springvill; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 23, at Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, VA with Rev. Steven Lilly officiating. Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield. MRS. R.W TABOR Funeral services for Mrs. R. Walton (Pearl Scott) Tabor, 90 of Roanoke, formerly of Bluefield, Va who died Saturday, April 24 in a Roanoke nursing home after a long illness, were conducted Tuesday, April 27 at Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield VA. Rev. Raymond Amos officiated at the service. Burial followed in Grandview Memory Gardens. Born in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Belle Reynolds Scott and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Roanoke. Surviors include one son, Frank A. Tabor of Bluefield, Va; two daughters, Mrs. Charles H. (Reba) Fox of Bluefield and Mrs. Raymond M. (Bette) Morgan of Roanoke; two brothers, Earl E. Scott and William A. Scott, both of Bluefield, Va. two sisters Mrs. George R. Bowling and Mrs. John A. Summers, both of Bluefield Va. 11 grandchildren and 22 great granchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert W. Tabor jr.
