TAZEWELL COUNTY, VA - NEWSPAPERS - Clich Valley News, 4 Aug 1905, Hays Family ----€€€---- "Clinch Valley News" Tazewell, Tazewell Co., VA Friday, August 4, 1905 FORMER TAZEWELL BOY NOW A MINISTER Among the number of Tazewell boys who have made a success in life, in other sections of this great country, few have done better, than R. E. L. HAYS now of Kimball, South Dakota, His father, THOS. B. HAYS, moved with his family, from Thompson Valley, this county, in 1883, to the West, settling in Iowa. His son, ROBERT, the youngest son, then 20-years old, fought his way through college, and seminary, and married a Nebraska lady, and is now pastor of the Presbyterian church in Kimball, South Dakota, and an intelligent, earnest man. His church gave him a month’s vacation, which he is spending in Virginia, visiting his old home and acquaintances. MR. HAYS said to a News reporter that the growth of this town and the development of the county, is simply wonderful. When he left Tazewell there were no railroads in this section, and the rapid and substantial growth of the entire country seems almost incredible. The visit of MR. HAYS to this county and town was equally a pleasure and joy to people who knew him and his people years ago. His father died in Iowa ten years ago-his mother dying in Tazewell before they left. [R. E. L. Hays is probably named after General Robert Edward Lee. Kimball, SD., is in Brule County. Kimball, SD, is located not far from the Iowa border, to southeast, and the Nebraska border to the south]. ADDED DATA: 1850 TAZEWELL CO VA CENSUS # 2 HAYES, THOMAS B. age 53 farmer b.
