RASNAKE, who struck Kenneth HOWERY, son of Walter HOWERY, near the child's home on Cavitt's Creek last Thursday, appareled in court here this week. There appeared to be no criminal liability, but it is understood civic action will be brought against Mr. RASNAKE by the boys parents. Floyd GREEN came to grief in Trial Justice Court Wednesday. He was recently arrested by county officers for law violations, and when he appeared in court he confessed to a hit and run charge, driving without operators license, driving while intoxicated, and illegal possession of liquor. He was fined $100 and given two months in jail. Dewey GREEN, of Newtown, drew one month suspended sentence, and $25.00 fine for disorderly conduct at the home of Jesse HASH. The evidence showed the GREEN went to the HASH home, engaged in a fight with the HASH Brothers. Jesse and Walter, and knocked them both out with his fist. A step child of Jesse HASH seems to have been at the bottom of the trouble. Buford ABLE made a mistake and sold a pint of "cross-arm" liquor to ABC Colton. There was nothing to be done about the matter but pass out punishment to the man, who was able to take it. To make the day complete Judge PEERY had a dog case. The alleged offender belonged to Mr. PROFFIT, and game warden WILSON and others suspected the dog had been running Mr. A.Z. LITZ'S sheep, and so said in a warrant. Judge PEERY heard all the evidence and decided in the dog's favor. At the Methodist parsonage in Bland, Virginia, the marriage of Miss Ann RILEY, daughter of G.A. RILEY, of Pounding Mill, to Mr. Herman Alfred LANEY, also of Pounding Mill, was solemnized Saturday afternoon, April 27, 1940, at 3:00 o'clock. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J.A. HARDIN. Mr. LANCY is the son of Mrs. Hester LANEY and is employed as mechanic by the Pounding Mill Quarry Corporation. The bride, for her marriage, was attired in a lovely outfit of blue, with black accessories. Mr. and Mrs. LANEY were accompanied by Mrs. L. Finley RINGSTAFF, sister of the bride, Mrs. Thomas D. DUNCAN and Miss Winnie MYERS. They will be at home to their friends in Pounding Mill. County game warden Elbert WILSON appeared before the board of supervisors this week and presented a proposal from the State commission of game and inland fisheries to co-operate in the effort to replace the quail losses of the severe winter and requested the board to appropriate $400,00 from the dog tax fund for the purpose. In view of the stress for economy the board declined to make the appropriation. Mr. WILSON supported his plea with figures to show that already this year in excess of $3,700 had been collected for dog licenses against a total of all last year of $3,192. The county receives 85 percent of the sum collected for licenses from which losses from canine causes are paid during the current year and the balances remaining at its close being transferred to the general county fund.
