Junior, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry HOWARD, of Tazewell, is recovering from an attack of pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. George WARD have returned to Tazewell from Florida, where they have been spending the winter. Mrs. F.J. JAMES, of Portsmouth, Virginia, is in North Tazewell the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.L. PORTER and family. Luther PEERY of Charleston, West Virginia and Robert PEERY, of Blacksburg, visited homefolks at North Tazewell over the weekend. Jim PEERY has returned to his home in Tazewell from Hiawassee College, where he has successfully completed a school term. Miss Clara COMPTON has returned from Hiawassee College, Madison, Tennessee, where she has spent a profitable and interesting session. She expects to return next fall. Mrs. S.C. WARNER, who received a broken foot in an automobile accident Sunday night, is resting comfortably at her home here. Reserved seats for "Gone With the Wind" can be obtained at H.W. POBST Jewelry Store. The picture will be shown at the Valley Theatre next Monday, Tuesday. Miss Betty Jean JOHNSON daughter of Mrs. E.H. JOHNSON, of Tazewell, sophomore enrolled at Brenau College, and a member of Alpha Chi Omega, national social sorority, has been elected secretary of Tau Sigma, national honorary dancing fraternity. Sayers Brothers, Tazewell department store, expect to begin work this week on the remodeling of their store. Plans call for a modern and up to date front. The store will remain open during the remodeling process. Dr. A.L. ANDERSON, of E.L. JACKSON Drug Co., at Richlands, has been acting in the capacity of "maid" in the rehabilitation and refurbishing (spelled wrong) of Jackson Drug Co. at Tazewell. He expects to be here for several days aiding Skid JENNINGS, chief pharmacist at Jackson's in getting the place in order. C.W. MATTEWS, well known Bluefield, Virginia, citizen, celebrated his ninety- second birthday on Wednesday. Mr. MATTHEWS is the lone surviving Confederate in Tazewell county. Miss Agnes JUNKIN, who has been teaching bible in the Tazewell public schools for the past several years, will leave at the close of the school term for Wilmington, N.C. where she will take up similar work. Miss JUNKIN has been very active in her work in Tazewell, and will be greatly missed. GRATTON ----------------------------------------- Born to Mr. and Mrs. Bilton BURTON, a son, on Monday. He has been named Charles Kelly. Marcas BOURNE, of Bluefield, Virginia spent Saturday and Sunday with Mrs. BOURNE'S parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. BURTON. Mr. and Mrs. M.L. BURTON spent Sunday with Mrs. BURTON'S mother and father, Mr and Mrs. HAGER. Miss Rosa BURTON was in Richlands Tuesday with Rev. and Mrs. LUNDY, attending conference. Mrs. Paul YOST is visiting in Keystone. S.W. BOURNE remains ill at his home here. Miss Ada BURTON was here Sunday from Thorpe. She was accompanied by several of the Thorpe folks, Mr. and Mrs. COOPER and Mrs. HONAKER. J.W. BURTON from Crandon, Virginia, spent the weekend here. Sam BURTON, of Keystone, spent the weekend at his home here. POUNDING MILL --------------------------------------------------------- Rev. Lee HILL, Methodist minister, will preach Sunday night at the Union Church. There ws no service Sunday night on account of an electrical storm which left the town dark. Rev. Curtis HANKS, of the Church of God, preached Saturday and Sunday nights on Quarry Hill and will preach again this Saturday and Sunday night. The Sunday school class met with Misses Edna and Mary THOMAS on Wednesday of last week. Community League met at the school house Friday night and had quite a display of art that the children had made this year, which was in abundance. Mr. and Mrs. W.H. MCGEE and son, Billy, spent the weekend with parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.H. FOSTER, of East Radford. Mr. and Mrs. John B. GILLESPIE and Mrs. W.B. STEELE were invited dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Newt GILLESPIE in Richlands. Miss Ruth HILT, teacher of Richlands High School, spent the weekend here as the guest of Mrs. Hazel THACKER and Mrs. M.H. CHRISTIAN. She was a former teacher here. A number from here visited Indian Sunday evening, where lightning destroyed Mr. BURKLEBAUGH'S home. Mrs. Harvey CLAYPOOL and her daughter, spent Monday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert ELSWICK. Miss Lettie RINGSTAFF is resting some better at this writing. Carlton CRAIG, of Jonesville, Virginia spent Tuesday night with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.A. CRAIG on his way to Portsmouth, Ohio, to accept a government position. Mrs. H.T. RINGSTAFF is able to be out some, after several weeks of illness. Mr. and Mrs. A.O. HILT and their daughter, Miss Ada, were shopping in Bluefield Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. J.S. MULKEY have gone to visit their daughter, Mrs. Earnest JONES and Mr. JONES, at Fordtown, Tenn. Mrs. Charles CARBAUGH, of Bluefield, spent last week at home with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. ASBURY, Miss Sara and Charles. Mr. and Mrs. C.H. ROBINETTE and son David, and Miss Virginia WRIGHT were in Bluefield, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter MULKEY and Mrs. Kate McGEE motored to Fordtown, Tenn, Sunday. Miss Mary THOMAS left Thursday for Toledo, Ohio, where she has a position as secretary.
