The offering was five dollars. Mrs. ROBINSON was guest of Mrs. W.B. STEELE while here, who accompanied her Sunday morning to Cedar Bluff, where she gave another address at 11 o'clock. The old union was resurrected with the same officers, viz: Mrs. T.A. REPASS, president; Mrs. W.F. GRINSTEAD, 1st vice president; and Mrs. Kate MCDILDA, 2nd vice president; Mrs. Chapman H. PEERY, corresponding secretary; Mrs. W.F. GRINSTEAD, recording secretary; Mrs. L.F. NIXON, Treasurer. Twenty members were added, five of whom were honorary. State dues for twelve members were paid and subscriptions were taken for the Virginia Call and also the Union Signal. Mrs. T.A. REPASS read the 25th chapter of Matthew, beginning at the 31st verse and also led the prayer. After the address Mrs. GRINSTEAD led the prayer; the closing prayer was by Mrs. Kate MCDILDA. Mrs. GRINSTEAD took the ladies is their nice new car to Richlands to hear the evangelist, Rev. William BURLEIGH lecture on the "Kaiser's Withered Hand," Every one should hear this man's lecture on this subject. He beats and knocks things into folks - your writer's kind of preaching. On looking around we saw the following persons from our town: Mrs. Ollie HURT, Mrs. R.K. GILLESPIE, Mr. and Mrs. G.A. RILEY, Mrs. C.H. TRAYER, and perhaps a number of others that we do not now recall. We followed the procession to the convict camp, where another most excellent address was given, which was fitting for the occasion. The convicts, both white and colored, numbering about 30, sang several songs, which were enjoyed by the visitors and here we will mention the fine signing of Prof. KAPPA, of Louisville, Ky., with Miss LEFLER, of Crockett's Cove as organist, who knows just how and when to play soft and low. She played that night when Prof. KAPPA sang, "Where is My Wandering Boy Tonight?" and showed the scenery, which made the tears start from one's eyes and a choking sensation in one's throat. We spent the night with Mr. and Mrs. William FARMER, where we were delightfully entertained. We returned home Monday morning brighter and better folks. Born to Mr. and Mrs. J.T. ALTIZER, on Monday morning, a son; to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph SMITH Saturday evening, a daughter. All doing well. Miss Lois HURT is home from Hollins College and she and sisters, the Misses Barbara, Mary and Kate and Misses Mary B., Jessie and Ollie Kate GILLESPIE, J.H. WILLIAMSON and other were at Richlands to hear the Rev. William BURLEIGH Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. John B. GILLESPIE and baby Catherine Lee, Miss Mabel B. BOUNRE and Dora NEWMAN, Jim MCGUIRE, of Cedar Bluff lunched at the Henry STUART farm Sunday afternoon. They had car trouble because they did not go to church. Mr. Baylor PRUETT is an efficient clerk in Steele, Gillespie and Company's store. Mrs. Julia WILLIAMS will today attend the missionary meeting of the M.E. Church, South, with Miss Elsie GRAYBEAL, of Maxwell Mrs. Melvin ANDERSON, of West Virginia, was a visitor to friends and relatives here recently. Following are the new Red Cross members: Mr. Charles MCGUIRE, Mr. Milton HARRIS, William A. AZBURY, Miss Ocie LOVELL. Mr. and Mrs. Henry ROBINETT were at Richlands Sunday afternoon between trains. Mrs. R.K. GILLESPIE, Mrs. J. Sanders GILLESPIE, Mrs. William GREEAR, and Miss Sallie MAHOOD were to dinner at William BARNS' Friday.
