TODD left for his home in Tennessee today. Mr. and Mrs. WALKER returned to their home in Staunton today. Mr. T.A. LYNCH left on Saturday last to attend the National Democratic Convention at Chicago. Mr. Oscar GEORGE entertained a number of friends at the residence of his father a few miles west of town, Tuesday night. Mr. Henry WHITE of Cedar Bluff was in town during the week. He is looking somewhat the worse after his fight with flux. Mr. E.L. GREEVER went to Rural Retreat the first of the week to take deposition. Messrs. John HENRY and Garnett SMITH have returned home after a session at Randolph Mason College. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff WARD, who have been visiting home folks in Rich Valley have returned home. Mrs. MILLARD, mother of our townsman, Mr. Al MILLARD, died at her home in Blountville, Tenn., on the 4th. Mr. Joe P. HARMAN has returned from the VMI where he has been during the past session. He was elected as corporal . Mr. John H. WHITLEY of North Tazewell had his pocket picked while in Richmond last week, and is thereby of a fine gold watch. FIVE OAKS -------------------------------- Mrs. B.B. GREEVER has been on a visit in Bluefield to her daughter Mrs. John COOPER. Mr. Tate GREEVER has been under the weather for a few days, suffering with his eye. Mrs. Annie W. FLOYD and Miss Fannie YAWREL have been visiting Mrs. F.L. HOLMES. Mr. E.K CROCKETT has been in Bland gathering sheep and lambs for New York Market. CEDAR BLUFF ------------------------- Miss Myrtle SHUFFLEBARGER, of Pocahontas is visiting her uncle Mr. William DURHAM. Mr. H.W. WHITE and Miss Callie went to Tazewell Monday. E.H. SCOTT has purchased a brand new Milk Shake and has it in full blast in his store, "Em" knows how to shake it. Mr. J.H. DURHAM went to Maybrook Saturday and returned Monday. Mrs. Rebecca JONES and Mrs. Tives CORBIN, of Knob, were visiting Mr. and Mrs. E.H. SCOTT last week. Mr. C.H. PEERY was in Russell last week buying cattle. Mr. Brack CATTRON and Miss Barbara PATRICK were united in marriage at the residence of the bride on the 5th, Rev. J.W. HUBARD officiating. POUNDING MILL --------------------------- Rev. R.J. LOCKHART preached at this place last Sunday. Hope he will peach often for us, as we all appreciate his sermons. Mrs. C.P. WILLIAMS is spending the present week with her sick parents, Mrs. and Mrs. BROWN at Tip Top. Miss Ella GILLESPIE was shopping in town Tuesday. Messrs. Clint BARNS, Ike DODD, Charlie PEERY and others from Tazewell, were here last week fishing guests of W.B. STEELE and R.K. GILLESPIE. Mrs. Melvin ANDERSON, Mrs. J. OSBORN, Mrs. John ASBURY and Miss Sallie MAXWELL attended quarterly meeting at Jones Chapel Sunday. Messrs John DAILY and George MCCALL are ? again. Mr. W.B. STEELE lost a fine cow last week. The picnic of Mr. Cyrus WILLIAMS which was mentioned in our last is a thing of the past. In spite of the torrents of rain most everybody went who was invited. We give names of some who were there: Mr. and Mrs. C.P WILLIAMS, Mrs. W.B. STEELE and Miss Rebecca DAVIS, who chaperoned the party, Misses Etta and Flora GILLESPIE, Callie MCGUIRE, Kate and Maria LAIRD, Ella and Bessie WILLIAMS, Liza and Ella YOUNG, Maggie Strother WITTEN, Maud GILLESPIE and Messrs. J.R. PORTER, W.R, T.D. and Harry WILLIAMS, Gus GILLESPIE, John BOTTIMORE, Will GREEAR, Young John and Jim LAIRD. Every one had a good time. Messrs Columbus and Lee ANDERSON, and Will SCOTT attended church at Jones Chapel Sunday. Mr. Frank WITTEN, of Tazewell, is fishing in Clinch is a guest of the Williams Brothers. Mr. Tom THOMPSON, of Iowa is visiting his brother, Dr. C.A. THOMPSON.
