THOMPSON, of Tazewell and R.R. SMITH, of North Tazewell. Crouse is charged with Moonshining, and will have to explain to the court why he was so near a "moonshine still" with keys to the locked doors when he was arrested. He was brought here to jail and later gave bond for appearance in court. The two officers received a tip sometime ago that such an institution was in full blast on Laurel Creek, and were given minute directions as to the location of the outfit. They journeyed in that direction last Friday, and took a roundabout route to the designated point. They soon located the still by smoke from the chimney, and were within a few feet of the log house where the liquor was being made when they located the distiller a few feet below the still in a corn patch. They saw him first, or neither of them might be here to tell the story. THOMPSON leveled his blue steel gun on CROUSE and ordered him to throw up his hands, which he did after some argument. The two officers searched the man and found a pistol in his pocket besides a shot gun, fully loaded, which he carried. They tied his hands together with a handkerchief, and started to town with him. On the way he escaped from the two men, and made an effort to reach a laurel thicket a few hundred feet away. SMITH tried the shot gun on him, and as the escapee continued his journey at a greater speed, Sergeant THOMPSON called to SMITH to chase him, which SMITH did with great success. The man was put back in the car and brought to town. Mr. M.J.
