Herbert WARD, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Jeff WARD, of Tazewell, was severely burned recently by the explosion of a gasoline tank at the Edgewood Arsenal near Baltimore, Md. He belongs to the U.S. Army Chemical Warfare Service. Mr. Jeff WARD has been advised this week that his son's condition is not as serious as was at first feared, and he will soon be able to write the details of the accident. Mr. C.T. PATTON is arranging to add new equipment to his garage here, and will have his son, Walter PATTON, associated with him in the very near future. J.S. DAVIDSON, one of our old and valued subscribers, dropped in Monday morning and parted with a year's subscription and left with a smile on his countenance. County Agent WALL, Dr. Isaac PEIRCE and Superintendent GREEVER have gotten together a very fine exhibit for the Richmond Fair, which begins next week. The exhibit includes apples, corn, and other farm products, besides the baby beef exhibit. Peery KINDER, age thirteen years, died at the home of his grand father, Reese T. KINDER, in Thompson Valley, Monday morning as the result of an accidental gun shot wound received Saturday. He had been squirrel hunting with a .32 rifle, which was accidentally discharged, the bullet penetrating the boys bowls and other vital organs of his body. His grandfather is said to have been so shocked at his grandson's death that he has been at the point of death himself since the accident. Walter KISER has sold his hardware business at Eckman, and has been at his home here. Invitations to the marriage of Miss Kathleen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Harold LITZ to Mr. Frederick Harrison HALE have been received in this office. The marriage will take place on the 14th of October to the brides home, Brookdale Farm, near Morristown, Tenn. Joe Davidson was a business visitor to this office on Monday. He gave us a bat wing for another years subscription. Mollie HARMAN, North Tazewell, also paid this office a visit and paid her dues. D.W. SIX, 84 years old, died at his home in Thompson Valley September 17th and was buried at the old home, Rev. B.O. SHANNON, pastor of the Presbyterian congregation conducted the funeral services. He is survived by seven sons and two daughters, viz, William, James, Samuel, John, Ira, Edward and Dan, Mrs. James H. BUCHANAN and Miss Polly SIX. "Whitley" SIX, as he was known, was a man of integrity, a life long member of the Presbyterian church, an industrious, prosperous farmer. The breaking of this, another connection link between the past and the present teaches a lesson that should be heeded by the living. LOST - On street car Friday, a package containing two waists. SHAWVERS MILL --------------------------------------------- Mrs. Myrtle BELCHER, who has been visiting friends and relatives in Craig, has returned to her home here. Mr. and Mrs. J.W. BOWSER and son, J.W. jr. have been visiting Mrs. BOWER'S parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.J. NEEL at this place. Mrs. W.L. SHAWVER has returned from a trip to friends and relatives in Graham and Bluefield. The C.W.B.M. will meet at the Chestnut Grove church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Mrs. Alice SHAWVER. Come and be with us. Miss Mary BELCHER left last week for Princeton, West Virginia, where she expects to attend school this session. Mrs. REVES, of Smythe County, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. E.G. PRUETT at this place.
