Four machines have overturned, two of the going down an embankment into the river; one exploded, and the other was struck by a freight train. There were no fatalities. Mr. and Mrs. H.G. MULHOLLAND and children were badly shaken up in an automobile accident which landed them in Bluestone River at Bramwell and wrecked his Dodge car, after turning over a few times going down the bank. Mr. MULHOLLAND and family were out in the car when a big car came up behind, driven by E.F. BROWN, of Worth, West Virginia, at a rapid rate. Mr. BROWN blew and Mr. MULHOLLAND halted on the side next to the river and as near to the edge as he could go with safety, but the big car struck him from the rear and also from the side, turning the Dodge car over the bank. Mrs. MULHOLLAND was badly bruised but none was seriously injured. Mr. BROWN came to Pocahontas the next day and offered to make good the damage to the car. T.M. ARRINGTON, of Boissevain, turned his car over Monday and severely injured himself. Sim FRANKLIN, of Boissevain, while getting gasoline from a car with the aid of a carbide lamp caused explosion which burned his face and destroyed the car. FRANKLIN will recover from his burns. A young man from Crane Creek named Sam TABOR went over into the creek with his car near the steel tipple in Pocahontas, causing considerable damage to the machine. Charles W. GREEN, of McComas came to Pocahontas for a cook. While crossing the railroad at Simmons on the return trip the car was struck by a freight train. The occupants saved themselves by jumping but the woman cook was inured. Frank WATSON'S car went over the bank in Laurel Creek Monday morning, turning over about four times with hi, he escaped serious injury. Col. James S. BROWNING and Henry C. CALLOWAY addressed the voters of this section at a rally here Friday night at the opera house in the interest of the republican ticket. They were also speakers at a rally at Boissevain Wednesday night, as was also Senator R.O. CROCKETT. J.M. NEWTON, J.R. YOUNG and perhaps other members of Pocahontas Lodge No. 6o, Knights of Pythians, will attended the grand lodge convention at Staution next week. Lacy B. CRAWFORD has been appointed to fill the position of secretary at Pocahontas of the Pocahontas Fuel Company, to succeed the late J. Walter GRAYBEAL. Mr. CRAWFORD has been identified with the fuel company for many years in an official capacity, and has been mayor of the town and a member of the school board. Lilburn WARD received a very painful wound in his eye Monday afternoon, causing him a hurried trip to a Bluefield hospital. LOCAL NEWS ----------------- The County Rest Room, under the auspices of the Tazewell County W.C.T.U., was formally opened to the public Saturday afternoon with a pleasing and entertaining program consisting of music by the High School orchestra, vocal selections by Mrs. A.S. HIGGINBOTHAM and Miss TALBERT, reading by Miss REVERE. Refreshments were served by a committee from the local W.C.T.U., Mesdames C.T. PEERY, A.S. ULM, C. Henry HARMAN, Charles OSS and Miss Margaret HARMAN. During the afternoon a large number visited and inspected the Rest Roam and Loan Closet and a pleasant social time was enjoyed by all. The Rest Room is open daily and the ladies of the town and county are cordially invited to visit the room. In connection with the Rest Room is a loan closet, consisting of various articles which may be used in time of sickness and it is hoped any one will feel free to make use of it. During the afternoon several nice gifts were received to be used in purchasing articles for the use of the loan clo! set. FOR SALE - two electric motors, one 2 horse power, one 1/2 horse power. J.G BUSTON. Mrs. Joseph STRAS, Roanoke, is a welcome visitor to friends and relatives in this town and community for several weeks. Mrs. Jennie KITTS was here this week. She left on Wednesday, and will go into winter quarters in Roanoke with Mr. Frank DULANEY. Mr. and Mrs. J.O. MITCHELL returned thru town on Wednesday to their home at Yukon, from a visit to Mr. MICHELL'S father, in Smyth County, who is seriously ill, and not expected to recover. Mr. and Mrs. C.F. LAMBERT of Coulwood, Virginia, were visitors to town this week. Banker Mr. Aaron RUSS and wife, of Tazewell, were down this way Monday. RUSS reports banking good in his town. Mr. NEWTON, the laundry agent in this town, has been confined closely to his home for several weeks. His many friends hope his breakdown is only temporary, and that he soon may be out again. Announcements have been received of the marriage of Mr. George SURBER and Miss Lola Virginia WEEKS. The marriage took place on October 2, at Bosnack, Virginia. Mr. SUBER was for years a resident of this town, and is well and favorably known here.
