TAZEWELL COUNTY, VA - NEWSPAPERS - Clinch Valley News, 26 Mar 1943, William Wesley Mathena ----¤¤¤---- "Clinch Valley News" Tazewell, Tazewell, Co., VA Friday, March 26, 1943 EIGHTY-FIRST BIRTHDAY FOR MR. MATHENA Mr. William Wesley Mathena, a pioneer citizen of the Tip Top community, celebrated his eighty-first birthday on Friday, March 19 at the home of his son Walter Mathena at Tip Top. Mr. Mathena was born at The Divides near Witten Mills, in 1862 and has lived at Tip Top in the same house for the past fifty years, He was married to Miss Martha Marie Carter in 1881 and to this union were born eleven children, seven daughters and four sons nine of whom survive. Mrs. Mathena died several years ago. Mr. Mathena has two sons and sixteen grandsons registered for the armed forces. Seven of his grandsons are now serving overseas and three are in training camps in the United States. [Mr. Mathena died 21 Dec 1949. He was the s/o William Thomas Mathena & Josephine Nicatie McClure and both of his parents are buried in the Wexler Tabor Cemetery at Mudfork, Tazewell Co., VA. Mr. Mathena's wife's parents were Aaron Carter & Nancy Elizabeth Neel. It was interesting to find this article as I have also seen W. W. Mathena's wife's name as Sarah Louvicie Martha Carter].
