F. D., Aug 2- Edward Slade is a patient in the Bluefield sanitarium, suffering with a fractured knee. [Edward Slade: Apparently kin the the Gratton Wysor 'Grat' Slade & Ann C. 'Annie' (Carbaugh) Slade families]. Mrs. James M. Tiller and daughter, Nancye Jane (sic), have returned home at Spartansburg, S.C., after spending two weeks with Mrs. Tiller's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stephenson. [Uncertain, however, one Benjamin Stephenson , of the Tazewell Co., VA. area was the son of Simon E. Stephenson & Priscilla F. Blackwell]. Mr. and Mrs. Gadson Mattox and family spent last week at Rich Creek with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Bane received a message that their son, Pvt. Claude Bane, is a patient in the army hospital, suffering from pneumonia. [William Howard 'Bill' Bane, s/o Joseph Howard Bane / Rachel Cammillie Witten & Dora Alice Shrader, d/o Francis Marion 'Pet' Shrader & Rachel Maloney Harman. The son. Claude E. Bane, 1914 to 1990]. ADDED NOTE: Francis Marion , 1732? ? 1795, was also know as the "Swamp Fox" of the Revolutionary War era, known for his guerilla tactics against the British in South Carolina. A few Shrader and Tabor men were named to honor this man.-Karen EAGLE Moman Miss Bonnie Jean Tickle (sic) is visiting in Spartansburg S. C. with relatives. [perhaps kin to the Mrs. James M. Tiller mentioned above, in this file]. Mrs. Lula Carroll is in Akron Ohio, spending several days with her husband, who is employed in a defense plant there [Remember this was during WW II]. Mr. and Mrs. Rob Scott and daughter, Ila Jean, have been quite sick for several days. [Perhaps kin to Edward Thomas Scott & Annie Bell Reynolds, they did have a son named Robert. However, I have no wife or children listed for Robert Scott. Thomas Edward Scott later marrie the widow of Allen Preston Tabor, Mary A. Elizabeth McClannahan] Mr. and Mrs. Adham (sic) King, of Littlesburg, W. Va., were visitingwith Mrs. King's parents last Sunday, at this place. Miss Betty Christian is spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Christian, Betty has been employed in Washington, D. C. John Stephenson is ill at his home with heart trouble. [Simon E. Stephenson & Priscilla F. Blackwell had a son named John. However, I am not certain this is him]. Mr. and Mrs. Carr Bane and children spent last week end with their parents. The Banes live in Kingsport, Tenn. [I believe to have been Daniel CARR Bane, s/o William Howard Bane & Alice Dora Shrader. Daniel Carr Bane married Nannie Lou Slade, d/o Gratton Wysor, 'Grat' Slade & Ann Clifford Carbaugh]. Mrs. Sally Craig was called to Falls Mills to be with her brother, Joe Yost, who was stricken with paralysis last week. His condition is serious. [Sarah Annabelle 'Sallie' Yost, d/o William Bonham Yost & Gilliam Louvenia 'Gilli Ann' Shrader. Joseph Eldridge 'Joe' Yost was Sallie's brother. There were 13 children in the William & Gilli Ann (Shrader) Yost family]. Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Dillon have had as their guest for two weks (sic), Mrs. Amos, of Roanoke. Mr. Hodock (sic), of the bailey community, was a business visitor here last week.
