Marrs living in the Falls Mills, VA area at the time. Mollie was a name of endearment for Mary, Mildred and sometimes Martha. TABOR, who went from this place to Richmond for Medical treatment is at the Old Dominion Hospital and is much improved. We hope to see Billie at home soon in usual health. Friday, May 17, 1901 Submitted from Italy QUEENTO FRANCESA and JOHN GIVINIA, who went to Italy last fall returned on Wednesday, bringing six more cutters with them. Friday, May 24, 1901 Submitted from Falls Mills,Va., May 22 JOHN WILL and GRAT FINK returned from school at Tazewell last Wednesday and from their appearance one would suppose that the boarding houses at Tazewell were first class [I do not know John Will, however I believe Grat Fink was James Gratton , b. 1884 the s/o James C. Fink & Cynthia M. Dudley, d/o Hugh D. Dudley & Mary Jane Shuffleberger]. ………………. Friday, May 24, 1901 Submitted from Falls Mills,Va., May 22 A.W. T. says if the Italy reporter will notice his dimensions it will be quite easy to tell what becomes of the oranges and bananas. [Alexander Waltham ‘Alex’ Tabor, s/o Amos H. Tabor & Cynthia McPherson. The person/persons that submitted articles to the "Clinch Valley News," from Falls Mills, was always teasing Alex Tabor, the much sought after nice looking local bachelor (from many other editions). Oranges and bananas were apparently missing from a specific location. Oranges and bananas did NOT grow in the area and both were considered a treat in the 1940’s and 1950’s, when I lived there, so I can imagine how those two fruits must have been desired in the early 1900’s. During this era a little community called "Italy/Italy Leaks’ was in this area as was a place called Taborsville. Italy was near Falls Mills, VA., and was so named because of the many Italian men who worked as stone cutters in the local quarry]. See May 17, 1901 about more six stone cutters arriving from Italy. …………. Friday, May 24, 1901 Submitted from Falls Mills,Va., May 22 W. J. FINK, A. B. GILARDI, B. YOUNG and I. H. HARRY attended the meeting of the Royal Arch Masons at graham last Saturday night. They report a nice time and were highly pleased with the work. BRO. GILARDI says that some of them are poor judges of stone masonry. [Walter J. Fink , b. 1874, s/o James C. Fink & Cynthia M. Dudley, d/o Hugh D. Dudley & Mary Jane Shuffleberger. Isaiah Henderson Harry, husband of Meldora Moore Tabor, d/o John Andrew tabor and his first, of three wives, Martha A. Compton. A. B. Gilardi apparently a stone cutter/stone mason from Italy and a brother Mason of the others listed]. Friday, May 24, 1901 Submitted from Falls Mills,Va., May 22 We are informed that our old friend, DR. JACK O’KEEFFE was in attendance upon the Royal Arch meeting at Graham Saturday night. The Doctor is always a welcome visitor in Masonic circles. We first formed our acquaintance with him a Masonic Lodge thirty years ago. Time had left his mark upon us both but has not destroyed one spark of our zeal for Masonry. In Masonic spirit we are still young and will never grow old. ……………. Friday, June 7, 1901 Submitted from Bailey, Va., June 3 On Sunday night May 19th our people met at the church and organized what is known to Methodist people as Epworth League. The following officers were elected: President: E. G. WAGNER First vice President, MISS MARY WAGNER Second vice President; MRS. A. HOUNDSELL Third vice President; MISS CORRIE M. FRENCH Treas: MR M. H. RUTH The enterprise has started off with considerable promise. [Elias Green Wagner, and it is POSSIBLE that the Miss Mary Wagner was his daughter. I BELIEVE the woman listed as Corrie M. French should have been Carra W. French, d/o Charles Campbell French & Nancy Abagail Pauley. Carra W. French married James Robert Dudley, s/o James Craig Dudley & Mariah Elizabeth Tabor, d/o Francis Tabor & Mary Shrader (NOT Sanders as incorrectly entered in Tazewell Co., VA., marriage records). I have seen the name both as Corra and as Carra. Mrs. A. Houndsell was Julia A., b. Feb 1857. I do not know her maiden name]. …………….
