Article from Falls Mills, 1902 - Tazewell Co. VA Clinch Valley News Tazewell, Tazewell Co., VA Published Each Friday Established 1845 Cost-$1.00-in advance Paper published Friday, May 2, 1902 FALLS MILLS Special Correspondence Falls Mills, April 30-CHARLES COMPTON, whom we mentioned last week as being sick, is still very poorly. (I believe to be Charles E. Compton, s/o Ballard P. Compton & Deliah Harless. Charles E. Compton married Emma J. Poe, d/o James A. Poe). CROCKETT SARVER, whom we also mentioned, is very much improved. (I believe to have been this Crokett Sarver: 1900 Tazewell Co VA Census # 172 Clear Fork Dist, J. B. Havens, enumerator (This does not appear to be in the Falls Mills area!) CROCKETT SARVER, 42, b. Apr 1858, day laborer, ( all b. VA) ….. India, 40, b. Oct 1854, wife, had had 8children-6 living in 1900 …..James W., 18, b. July 1881, day laborer …..George H., 15, b. June 1884, day laborer …..John H., 13, b. Apr 1887, day laborer …..Robert I., 6, b. Aug 1893, son …..Cora V., 2, b. June 1897, daughter) CHARLES WIMMER and JAMES BUCKLAND lost a number of rails by forest fire last week. (I BELIEVE to be Charles W. Wimmer who married Nancy "Pollie" Buckland, d/o Jacob Alexander Buckland & Sarah J. Tabor. Sarah , d/o James Harrison Tabor & Nancy Moore Runion/Runyon). [I BELIEVE to be James J. Buckland, s/o William Jasper Buckland and Emily "Emma" Tabor, d/o James Harrison Tabor & Nancy Moore Runion. James J. Buckland married Sarah Elizabeth Murrell and then Frances Geneva "Fannie" (Compton) Givens who married three times (per a direct descendant).Frances was married to George W. Givens and they had at least three children a Ballard P. Givens b. 1905, Robert Givens & an Edna Virginia Givens who married a Mr. Warburton. Geroge W. Ballard P. & Robert Givens buried at Harry Cemetery, Falls Mills, Tazewell Co., VA. I do not know the name of the other husband of Frances Compton Givens Buckland but she is buried in the Harry Cemetery at Falls Mills, Tazewell Co., VA under the name of Fannie G. Givens. There is a POSSIBILITY that this Frances Compton MIGHT have been the daughter of Ballard Preston Compton and Deliah Harless? Since Frances named a son Ballard P.Givens it stands to reason that it could be correct that she is the d/o Ballard p. Compton. I have her in my genealogy file as a daughter of Ballard Preston Compton]. Last Saturday was payday at the quarry and the usual amount of booze was on hand. We are informed that Hugh Green will move his family from the quarry to this place in a few days. A number of young people at this place took in the carnival at Blue (field) this week.* (* the word was typed into the paper as Blue- they missed the rest. It could have been Bluefiled or Bluewell. My guess is that is was Bluefield. It is rumored that one of our best citizens has gone to get him a partner through life. We wish him all the happiness this sinful life can afford. We understand that a large vein of coal has been discovered on Mud Fork on the land of BOB THOMPSON. As local is within the jurisdiction of the Taborsville correspondent we will not attempt to write it up, but hope that he will give the News readers the particulars. (I believe this to have been ROBERT M. THOMASON, s/o Daniel Thomason & Elizabeth A. "Lizzie" Deaton. Daniel Thomason and Elizabeth A. "Lizzie" Deaton had at least three children to marry Tabors. Because I have never found the surnames of the spouses of George, Charles E. & Robert M. Thomason I can not say if they might or might not be Tabor women)! 1. James Warren Thomason married Cynthia Ann Tabor, d/o Richard & Mildred Permelia "Milly" Tabor, the ancestors of our group’s James Allen Thomason. 2. Naomi Jane Thomason married William Alexander "Bee" Tabor , a grand son of Richard & Milly Tabor. "Bee" was the son of Henry Jefferson "Jeff" Tabor & Sarah Ann "Suzy" Scott and the ancestors of our group’s Phyllia Ann Tabor 3. India Jane Thomason married Nathaniel Tabor- I have not found his family link. They had at least two children: Nathaniel "Nattie" Tabor and Mary Ester Tabor who married a Fitzhugh L. Tabor-I have never found his family link. I know nothing of this family and have had a query posted for months. When a man wants to discharge his clerk because he wanted to talk to his sweetheart, it apperas to me to be a little bit selfish. (Wow!, he used his correspondence license to get someone told off in this case). There was preaching in the Union Church at this place last Sunday morning and evening, and prayer meeting at night. This indicates that the people are becoming interested in spirtual matters. The Sabbath school at this place is in a flourishing condition, and well attended, which is another sign of good. We have come to the conclusion that the ITALY correspondent is love sick and cannot get his mind concentrated on the local news. If it does not become chronic we may hear from him again. (Articles labeled as "ITALY LEAKS" appeared in the New for awhile-I will type a few next as Alexander Waltham Tabor, s/o Amos H. Tabor & Cynthia McPherson and grandson of Daniel Tabor lived in the area. Karen EAGLE Moman). ED BUCKLAND is still with the American Bridge Co. Ed, is missed by all the young folks. (Charles Edward Buckland, Sr., s/o William Jasper Buckland & Emily "Emma" Tabor. Emma was the d/o James Harrison Tabor & Martha Moore Runion/Runyon).
