Article from Falls Mills, 1902 - Tazewell Co. VA Clinch Valley News Tazewell, Tazewell Co., VA Established 1845 Published Each Friday Cost-$1.00per year-In Advance May 16, 1902 FALLS MILLS (Special Correspondence) MRS. HARRY BALDWIN left this morning to visit relatives at Paris, Ky. A difficulty occurred near this place last week in which pistols and knives were displayed, but the service of a surgeon was not needed. E. A. The smallpox patients at Yards are getting along as well as could be expected, no new cases reported. As bachelors are generally sensitive on the subject of matrimony, we are unable to give your Taborsville correspondent the desired information. WALTER FINK was visiting in graham last Sunday, and from the smiles that he wore his visit must have been pleasant. ED BUCKLIN (sic) was up from Bramwell last Tuesday, and paid his uncle Hugh a visit while up. (Charles Edward Buckland., Sr., s/o William jasper Buckland & Emily "Emma" Tabor who was the d/o James Harrison Tabor & Nancy Moore Runion/Runyon). LEE J. BARBEE is in Baltimore this week. (Might be father/kin to the Lee Barbee b. abt 1910 who married Myrtle Belle Wagner, d/o James Henry Wagner & Cassie Ellen Belcher who was the d/o Mary Catherin Deaton & Isom Green Belcher. James Henry Wagner , s/o Rev. Adam Edward Wagner & Juliana Elinor Tabor. Mary Catherine Deaton the sister of Edward A. Deaton-see above). We will give a chromo to the girls who will tell us who is the handsomest bachelor in town. * (* I have no idea what a chromo was ?perhaps a mirror?) FROM LATER ARTICLES REGARDING THE BACHELOR: Clinch Valley News May 23, 1902 Falls Mills Mollie Tabor is entitled to the chromo for deciding on the best looking bachelor in town. We must say her judgement was excellent. (Mollie tabor, Mary M. Tabor, d/o Samuel Grover Tabor-known as Grover tabor & Virginia W."Jennie" Johnson). FROM OTHER ARTICLES: Clinch Valley News May 23, 1902, Italy Leaks We learn that A.W. Tabor, of Falls Miss (sic) ,* has been awarded a very handsome prize as being the handsomest bachelor in the city. (Alexander Waltham Tabor, s/o Amos H. Tabor who was the s/o Daniel Tabor & Mary Martha Flummer). (* I do not understand this since he is listed in other Italy Leaks articles as being from Italy Leaks-see the article on this same day regarding his lost sewing machine. I think perhaps some words were missing. The Falls Mills correspontent to the Clinch Valley News paper had challenged the young ladies to name the most handsome bachelor in the May 16, 1902, publication so I think he must have won that award. The Tabor men were HANDSOME).
