Article from Italy Leaks, 1902 - Tazewell Co. VA MAY 23,1902 ITALY LEAKS (Special Correspondence) Work will soon begin on the residence to be occupied by I. C. Dodd, who has charge of S. Walton and Co’s., store at this place. Mr. Dodd will move his family here as soon as the house is completed. Maj. Walton returned last Sunday from a business trip to Roanoke. J. O. Lutrell left Tuesday for Knoxville, Tenn., to attend the burial of his son, who was killed in a mine explosion near that place. V. S. Painter, the handsome big hearted man who represents Huff, Andrews and Thomas Company of Bluefield, was calling on the Italy merchants the first of the week. Quite a large delegation of Italy people took in the circus at Bluefield the 21st. A. W. Tabor’s sewing machine, shipped from Chicago, has not arrived yet. He has instructed the shipper to trace same at once, as he fears it will not arrive at the appointed time. (Alexandera Waltham Tabor, s/o Amos H. Tabor & Cynthia McPherson. Amos H. Tabor was the s/o Daniel Tabor & Mary Martha Flummer). Mr. Clark, boss for Maj. Walton, is quite sick. Mrs. S. Walton, Miss Mamie Sudduth and Mr. Walton Sudduth, were visiting friends and relatives in Bluefield last Saturday. We learn that A.W. Tabor, of Falls Miss (sic) ,* has been awarded a very handsome prize as being the handsomest bachelor in the city. (* I do not understand this since he is listed in other Italy Leaks articles as being from Italy Leaks-see the article on this same day regarding his lost sewing machine. I think perhaps some words were missing. The Falls Mills correspontent to the Clinch Valley News paper had challenged the young ladies to name the most handsome bachelor in the May 16, 1902, publication so I think he must have won that award. The Tabor men were HANDSOME). >From May 16, 1902, Falls Mills: We will give a chromo to the girls who will tell us who is the handsomest bachelor in town. * (* I have no idea what a chromo was ?perhaps a mirror?) May 23, 1902, Falls Mills Mollie Tabor is entitled to the chromo for deciding on the best looking bachelor in town. We must say her judgement was excellent. (Mary M. "Mollie" Tabor, d/o Samuel Grover Tabor ?known as Grover Tabor & Virginia W. "Jennie" Johnson).
