(There were several Samuel Shrader families, in this window of time, but as far as I know Samuel Gratton Shrader was the only one to live at Rocky Gap. Wade a well known engineer of the Norfolk and Western Railroad, and Miss Clyde Corder (sic) , were married at Falls Mills, Tuesday, the ceremony taking place at the home of Mr. John Hughes, the bride’s grandfather. * The officiating clergyman was Rev. W. Moss. After the wedding Mr. and Mrs. Wade left for a bridal tout to points of interest in the East after which they will take up their residence in Vivian. (The * is for the feminine name Clyde). I do not know these families but thought perhaps they might be known to some that have lived in the area). Friday, March 4, 1910 Isaac Wimmer, whose illness was reported last week, died at his home in the 83rd year of his life. The remains were interred in the Compton grave yard. (I believe this to be the Isaac Wimmer who had a wife named Sarah A. Isaac a son of Samuel & Massie Wimmer. This Isaac Wimmer ‘s children (as I know of them): Andrew M. WIMMER James M. WIMMER Harriett WIMMER Friday, March 4, 1910 Submitted from: Tip Top, Va., March 2 Miss Lula Perdue , age 14, second daughter of William L. and Fannie Perdue, died at Elkhorn on last Saturday. She had been sick sometime with brain trouble. Her remains accompanied by her parents and brother and sisters and several friends were brought up to St. Clair and buried in the old McDowell Cemetery on last Sunday evening. A large gathering of sorrowing relatives and friends had assembled to pay the last tribute of respect to one whom they had known and loved. Deceased was a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Gill, of St. Clair. Funeral services were held by Rev. W. W. Hicks. (I do not know how William L. Perdue is kin to us but feel that he was since ALL the Perdues were kin to Tabors/Wagners/Shraders. Can anyone help with this family link? Tabor, a former citizen and physician of Pocahontas, who went to Williamson several years ago, and later to Roanoke, has bought a fine farm in Fauquier County, Virginia. Dr. Tabor was born and reared on Bluestone, and by sticking close to his business in the practice of medicine, has accumulated quite a fortune, and is still a young man. (Sidney J. Miss Compton is the popular daughter of L. G. S. Compton, of this neighborhood, and Mr. Necessary is a well known young man of Poor valley. They have the best wishes of their many friends. Milton Thompson & Joseph Crigger (sic), two Masons of this community, attended the burial of Mr. Witten at Tazewell Tuesday. (Should be Jospeh Cregar) Friday, April 1, 1910 Submitted from: Tip Top, Va., March 30 Miss Roxie Carter, of Springville, aged about 20, daughter of Mrs. Jennie Carter, died on last Sunday evening and was buried at Wallace cemetery on Monday. She will be greatly missed, for she was highly esteemed by all who knew her. The bereaved and heart broken mother and brothers and sister, have the sympathy of all in this sad affliction. Friday, April 1, 1910 Submitted from: Tip Top, Va., March 30 News has been received here of the death of David N. Wagner, at the home of his son, E. G. Wagner, at Mechanicsburg, in Bland County. Deceased was about 85 years of age, and had lived in Tazewell all his life until last fall, when he removed to Bland county with his son. He leaves a large family of children: besides E. G. Wagner, of Bland, there survive Rev. William N. Wagner, of Baltimore; C. A. Wagner of Bailey; Mrs. Martha Bailey, of St. Clair; J. E. Wagner, of Bramwell; D. B. Wagner, of Monroe county, West Virginia; Mrs. Mary Bogle, of Bland county; Mrs. Sallie Doak, of Alumwick, West Virginia; David Wagner was one of the pillars of Methodism in his day in this community, and a Confederate soldier. Doak, is expected to wed one of our popular young women. Mr. Doak and Miss Sallie Wagner are to be married Wednesday, the 31st. Miss Organ (sic) Williams, of Giles County, will be one of the bridesmaids and her brother, Mr. Eugene Williams a groomsman. Friday, April 15, 1910 Death of Robert Wimmer Mr. Robert Wimmer, who lives south of town, died Monday after a brief illness from pneumonia. He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn the loss of a good husband and father. He was the son of Joseph Wimmer of Thompson Valley and a man of good standing in the community, a faithful member of the Methodist church. The burial took place in Thompson Valley, at Pleasant Hill. Mrs. Wimmer has the deepest sympathy of the entire community. (Son of Josephus Sidney "Joseph" Wimmer & Rebecca Malinda Shrader who is the daughter of John Henry Shrader, Jr., & Edith Belle "Edy" Day. Feb 1900, son Friday, April 15, 1910 Submitted from: Benbow, Va., April 14 Robert H. Wimmer, who died in Tazewell on Monday, was buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, a few miles of here, on Tuesday. A large crowd attended the burial. Deceased was a son of Joseph Wimmer, who is one of our best citizens, who has the sympathy of his many friends in this community. The Brown-Harman Camp also held a meeting and selected delegates to the annual reunion at Mobile, April 26, 27, 28. The following were elected; Maj. R. R. Henry, C. T. Scott and J. H. Caldwell, with Capt. C. A. Fudge, Hugh Sparks and M. H. Harman, alternates. Friday, April 22, 1910 Local News A. W. Tabor and Jos. Peak, Falls Mills, were here on Pension day. Alex remarked that if he could call back forty years the people of this town wouldn’t have to be told that he had hit it. (Alexander Waltham Tabor, s/o Amos H. Tabor. I do not understand the remark but that is O. K.) Friday, April 29, 1910 A Pioneer Citizen R. B. Tabor was here from Bluestone a few days ago on business matters and visiting relatives and friends. He is now past eighty years of age and was born and reared on the same farm where he now lives. He is the youngest child of a family of thirteen, and is the only one of his parent’s family living. Some years before his birth his parents came to this county from Montgomery and purchased about three hundred acres of land, which now constitutes the Tabor farm, for one hundred dollars. Mr. Tabor enjoys excellent health and is able to do a great deal of work.-Graham Banner (I BELIEVE this was Russell B. Died of pneumonia. It was buried on the 2nd at Willow Bridge Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Tabor, parents of Mrs. Crouch and Mrs Sallie Tabor of Mud Fork, attended the funeral. (Mrs. Crouch is Minnie Mae Tabor, d/o Charles W. Tabor & Amanda Jane Johnson. Charles W. Tabor is the son of Henry Jefferson "Jeff" Tabor & Sarah Ann "Suzy" Scott I have had this family as Crouse for years. The 1900 Tazewell Co., VA Census also has Crouse as the surname of William Richard "Bill" Crouse ‘s parents, John & Molly Asbury Crouse. Mrs. Sallie Tabor- Sarah Ann "Suzy" Scott Tabor-the widow of Henry Jefferson Tabor, Sarah Tabor died 16 Sept 1920. Other children of Minnie Mae & William Richard Crouch/Crouse: Emery, Ruth, Annabelle and Pearl Crouch/Crouse. I do not know which name is correct Crouch or Crouse! My mother was a childhood friend of the children of Minnie Mae & William Richard Crouse. Mom told me tonight, via telephone, she remembers the name as Crouch-I still am not certain-Karen). Friday September 2, 1910, Tazewell, VA Submitted from: Baptist Valley, Va, Aug., 31 Miss Lillie Stephenson (sic), who has been visiting in the valley for the past three weeks returned to her home in Thompson Valley Sunday accompanied by her father, Mr. Lindsey Stephenson. (Walter Lindsey Stephenson/Stevenson is the husband of Willie Jane Beard and Lillie their daughter). George Burnett and grandson, of Pounding Mill, visited his relatives, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Bowling the first of the week. (George W. Burnett, husband of Jane Bowling who was the d/o Jordan Efferson (sic) Bowling & Margaret Higginbotham. Jordon Efferson Bowling and wife were the grandparents of Charles Washington Bowling who was the husband of Minnie Belle Stephenson/Stevenson-d/o Willie Jane Beard). George's grandson would have been a Clarence, Robert or Emory -all born before the death of a wife of Samuel Burnett who was the s/o George W. Burnett and Jane Bowling). Mrs. Lizzie Bowling, who has been sick, is improving. (Mrs. Lizzie Bowling-Elizabeth Jane Cecil , wife of Jordan W. Bowling, s/o Lindsey Bowling & Virginia Levicie Brooks). Miss Mary Stephenson, of Thompson Valley, is the guest of her sister Mrs. C. W. Bowling. (Mary A. Stephenson, d/o Walter Lindsey Stephenson/Stevenson and Willie Jane Beard. Her sister was Minnie Belle Spephenson/Stevenson who married Charles Washington Bowling). William and Lacy Beard who have been visiting in Thompson Valley, returned home Monday. (Sons of Johnson Chapman "John" Beard and Margaret Stephenson/Stevenson).
