There are few better men living in Tazewell county than McTeer Saunders, and few who know the needs of the people better than he does. He would make an excellent supervisor of his district, and discharge the duties incident to this important office to the best of his ability, it the Court appoints him. Friday, October 1, 1909 Old Offender in the Toils Andrew Bertoline, Dispenser of Wet Goods, brought to Jail Here Last Night Andrew Bertoline, a Hungarian, was arrested at Alferdton, near Richlands yesterday, and brought to jail here last night by Deputy United States Marshalls Geo. Harrison and Vint Shrader, charged with selling whiskey without a license. Bertoline is said to have given the management of the Empire Coal Land Corporation and other coal operations in that vicinity more trouble than all the bootleggers in that section combined. The prisoner, according to Shrader, does not deny his guilt. Harrison and Shrader have rid the west end of a great many undesirable citizens, who have caused no end of trouble among the miners and employees of coal companies on Big Creek. (Three possibilities for a Vint Shrader- 1. Joshua C. Venson "Vince" Shrader, s/o John Henry Shrder, Jr., & Edith Belle "Edy" Day. Vince Shrader married Mary "Mollie" Givens. John Henry Shrader, jr., brother of Mary-wife of Francis Shrader & Mildred Permelia Shrader-wife of Richard Adam Tabor. 2. Jerry Lee Vincent Shrader, however he was b. MO in 1864 to George Washington Shrader & Isabell Hutchinson so I doubt it was him. George Washington Shrader, s/o John Henry Shrader, Jr., and Edith Belle "Edy" Day. George was one of three sons of John & Edy Shrader to go West. The other two were Joseph Looney Shrader and Zachariah Witten Shrader. 3. I think the Peter Shrader line has a Vincent , other than Vincent G. Shrader, Ph D., but I have had reentered most of that line after I had a computer problem about two years). (Three Mathias Beavers are in the 1900 Tazewell Co., VA Census-including the one mentioned in the article above-I do not know if any/all are related to this man. It seems likely since Mathias was a much-used name in that family of the area).
