"Dud" looks as solemn as a judge, and he has to, for he is in the saw mill business and there is no place for foolishness about a saw mill. He is making dust and splinters fly at Falls Mills. (Son of James William Baker & Fannie Ellis Baker. D. D. Baker married Sarah T. Tabor, d/o Stepehen Paris Tabor & Eleanor Havens). Wagner, of Falls Mills, called to see us on yesterday, and reported a new boy in the family of Mr. Giles French, in his community. The infant industry in Tazewell county shows no effect whatever of the panic. Wagner also reports Alex Tabor all right, except a little cross at times, which is, perhaps, to be expected. (James Henry Wagner, s/o Rev. Adam Edward Wagner & Juliana Elinor Tabor. James Wagner was marred to Cassie Ellen Belcher. Alex Tabor- Alexander Waltham Tabor, s/o Amos.Giles French, s/o John N. French & Elizabeth Pike. Giles French not married until after June, 1900. 1900 TAZEWELL CO VA CENSUS # 251, Clear Fork, W.W. Wells, enumerator GILE FRENCH (sic), 24, b. Nov 1875, VA, farmer …..Josie E., 20, b. Apt 1880, SISTER, b. VA John B. Melvin, 20, b. May 1880, boarder/farm labor b. VA Friday, October 22, 1910 Local News Miss Ellem McMullin, Miss Eva Deaton and Miss Weaver of Springville, were in the city a few days ago, and paid this office a very welcome call. The two former are among Tazewells prettiest native girls. Miss Weaver is a splendid young woman from Prince Edward county who will teach at Springville. The editor of this paper can vouch for the Prince Edward Weavers from years of personal acquaintance with them. They are the salt of the earth. (Miss Eva Deaton ?I believe to be Eva May Deaton, d/o George Thomas Deaton & Mary Dorinda "Mollie" Bailey. I feel certain this Deaton family is kin to the Nathan Deaton line but have not been able to make the link. As a matter of fact in the 1900 Tazewell Co., VA Census Geo.T. Deaton is living two properties away from Charles Anderson Deaton,b. Roanoke Co., VA -a son of Nathatn Deaton. The other line of Deatons in the area were of the John Deaton line that also had a Charles Deaton b. Alleghany Co., VA which married Electra Shrader d/o David Shrader, Jr., and his first wife, Chloe Dillion. The Nathan Deaton line was of Roanoke Co VA. Nathan was married in Botetourt Co., VA in 1819 but was in Roanoke Co VA by 1850. I believe Miss Ellen McMullin to be Mary E. McMullin, daughter of John P. Margaretta A.McMullins. There is the possibility that John Deaton MIGHT be a son of Nathan…NOT PROVEN).
