TAZEWELL COUNTY, VA - OBITUARIES - Mary Correll, 16 May 1942 ----¤¤¤---- "Clinch Valley News" Tazewell, Tazewell Co., VA Friday, May 22, 1942 MRS. CORELL, PIONEER DIED Mrs. Mary Correll, aged 89, wife of the late J. Oscar Corell, pioneer citizen of Thompson Valley, and a distinguished ex-Confederate soldier, died at her home Saturday. She was born in the community where she spent so many eventful years, and reared a large and prominent family of children. She came through a period of the country's history, the days of reconstruction, when many difficulties were encountered, and many problems arose. The Corell home in Thompson Valley was one where hospitality was proverbial and good cheer and fellowship were distinguishing characteristics. These good people were plain, God fearing, liberty loving, civic minded citizens. Two daughters, Mrs. M. J. Graham, of Hamilton, Va., and Mrs. Newt T. Buchanan, of Thompson Valley, and three sons, W. J. Corell, Free Union, Va., Oscar J. Corell, Eagle Rock, and Rees, who lives at the old home, survive Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon. Rev.W. P. Nickell, of Max Meadows, a former pastor in the valley, was in charge of the service. The burial took place in the family cemetery near the home. [Mary Rutledge Thompson, d/o James S. Thompson & Mary S. 'Polly' (Thompson) Thompson, wife of James Oscar Corell, Sr., 1843-1939, who was a s/o Joshua & Jane Corell Both James J. O. & Mary Corell, Sr., are buried in the Archibald Thompson Cemetery, Thompson Valley, Tazewell Co., VA. Mrs. Newton Thompson Buchanan was Rebecca Ann/Annie Rebecca Corell. Mrs. M. J.
