ARMANDA WALK and MISS BETTY MATTHEWS are in Graham this week attending the Baptist association which is in session at this place. [I believe this to have been Amanda Jane (Matthews) Walk, d/o William Matthews & Nancy Williams, Amanda would have been the sister of Charles Wesley ‘Wes’ Matthews, 1848-1950, who lived to be 102 and had served in the CSA during the Civil War. I am not certain of the parents of Betty Matthews. If you will notice Betty is called the daughter of Amanda in the following article, which was apparently a misprint, as she is listed as Betty Matthews in this article]. RELATED: Friday, September 2, 1910 IMPROVING SLOWLY MR. LEWIS MATTHEWS, MRS. WALK and her daughter MISS BETTIE, returned from Graham where they attended the recent session of the new Lebanon Baptist Association. Mr. Matthews reports C. W. MATTHEWS injuries, mention of which was made in this paper last week, as more serious than was at first thought. The bone in one leg, near the ankle was broken, and it will be sometime before he is able to be out. It will be recalled that he was laying the foundation of the new Episcopal church in Graham, when he was hurt by dirt falling in on his leg. [J. Lewis Matthews , s/o William Matthews and Nancy Williams. He was the brother of Amanda (Matthews) Walk and Charles Wesley "Wes’ Matthews]. RELATED: Friday, September 2, 1910 Submitted from Benbow, Va., Aug 31 MRS. V. L. STEPHENSON and her two children are visiting her mother (in law), MRS. WALK, this week. ["in law" should not have been added. I believe this to have been Nannie (Walk) Stephenson, d/o Van Walk & Amanda Jane (Matthews) Walk. Nannie Walk was the second wife of Vonner L. Stephenson, s/o Harvey C. Stephenson & Virginia E. Sweeny] ………………….. Friday, September 2, 1910 (Being written from Tazewell) DUDLEY DAVIS BAKER, of Abb’s valley, was here on Wednesday and paid this office a pleasant visit. "Dud" looks as solemn as a judge, and he has to, for he is in the sawmill business, and there is no place for foolishness about a sawmill. He is making the dust and splinters fly at Falls Mills. ……………. [Julia & Snow Bird Waldron, daughters of William Estell/Estell/William & Clementine Waldron Perhaps Nora should have been Cora Patton as the Leftrich & Laura J. Patton family lived two properties away from the W. E. & Clementine Waldron family in 1900 Tazewell Co., VA Census. Leftrich & Laura J. Patton had a daughter named Cora V. Patton?]. ……………….
