Dews, 73, of Maybeury, WV, died September 16 at a Bluefield hospital. Born at Coledale, he was the son of the late Richard and Bertha Cardwell Dews. He was a lifelong resident of Mercer and McDowell county, an ordained minister of Flat Top Missionary Association of Mercer, McDowell, and Raleigh counties, he was the pastor of Little Zion Missionary Baptist church in Bishop, and the pastor of Macedonia Missionary Baptist church in Boissevain, a retired miner of Pocahontas Fuel Corp., and a member of the UMWA. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mammie Dews. Survivors: wife Lilly Dews; sons Henry Dews of Oak Hill and Jerome Dews of Bluefield, WV; stepson Donald Arnold of Columbus, Ohio; daughter Jean Anthony of Culavista, CA; stepmother Lena Dews of Boissevain; brothers, George Dews of Bluefield, WV, Jospeh Dews of New York, NY; sisters, Kay Davis and Lillian Shanks both of Columbus, Ohio, Mary Alice Mason and Loretta Dews both of Boissevain, and Lena DeLisle of Bronx, NY. The funeral was conducted at 11 am September 20 at Little Zion Baptist church in Bishop with the Rev. Willie Hampton, Rev. Donald Dykes, Rev. Samuel Marrs, and Rev. Robert Hartwell officiating. Entombment followed at Restlawn Memorial Mausoleum on Littlesburg Road. Lugo Funeral Service in Bluefield was in charge of arrangements.
