Born Aug. 3, 1913, in Rowe, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Myrtle Jane Fuller Rowe. A lifelong resident of the Rowe area, she owned and operated Fleming Grocery. She was a charter member of the Rowe Free Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delmon "Spider" Fleming; one sister, Birchie Rowe; and five brothers, Paul Rowe, Lee Rowe, Clare Rowe, Alden Rowe and Bascom Rowe. Survivors include five daughters and sons-in-law, Polly and E.J. Gardener of Liberty, N.C., Sandra and Harold Shortridge of Rowe, Joyce and Harry Justice of Abingdon, Kate and David McClanahan of Rowe and Janie Fleming of Rowe; two sisters, Ellen Fletcher of Rowe and Edith Ray of Manassas, Va.; one brother, Ervin Rowe of Honaker; eight grandchildren, Steven Gardener, Karen Gardener Graham, Jason Gardener, Janet Shortridge Shepherd, Brian Shortridge, Beverly Justice Jordan, Rebecca Justice Reynolds and Morgann McClanahan; eight great-grandchildren, Ben Gardener, Caroline Gardener, Austin Graham, Brooke Shepherd, Addison Jordan, Thomas Jordan, Katherine Jordan and Jacob Reynolds; special caregiver, Joyce Brown; and dear friends, Dr. Vinod and Kailas Modi also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Ancil Childress officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill. Pallbearers will be Clayton Hale, Darrell Street, Johnny Compton, Jimmy Hess, Ned Baldwin and Chester Rowe. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Boyd, Millard Rose, John Jackson, Chris Jackson and Don Boyd. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Friday.
