Born in Wise County, Va., he was the son of the late Henry Horton Hamm and Hattie Mae Carty Hamm, both Wise County natives. He spent most of his life in the Richlands and Cedar Bluff areas of Tazewell County and was co-owner and operator of H & H Battery service at Raven. He served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Hamm in World War II, John Hamm and Robert Hamm. Mr. Hamm is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Joan Pruett Hamm; one son, Stanley Hamm and wife Carolyn of Pounding Mill, Va.; one daughter, Susan Hamm Mackey and husband Thomas of North Tazewell, Va.; two grandsons, Matthew Hamm and wife Sherri of Tazewell and Daniel Hamm of Pounding Mill; one granddaughter, Kristen Mackey Kelly and husband Perry of Tazewell; two great-granddaughters, Leah Kelly and Emily Kelly, both of Tazewell; two sisters, Katrina Tickles of Swarmer, Kan., and Betty Hunter and husband Marion of Abingdon; two brothers, Dennis Hamm and wife Maxie of Poundimg Mill and Jack Hamm and wife Mona of Richlands; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2002, in the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Revs. Rick Cole and Ethel Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends at the Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff from 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Thanks from the family to Dr. Steven Rinehart, Dr. Robert Weinacker, Hospice of Virginia and two special neighbors, Willis Williams and Frazier Joyce.
